My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

# Peter Pan: A Journey from Fear to Trust Greetings! My name is Peter Pan. My journey began when I was left at a shelter, a place that was quite daunting. Fortunately, a rescue group took me under their wing. I can be a bit apprehensive and wary of new faces, often trying to appear intimidating. But with time, patience, and proper introductions, I warm up and become a bundle of love. I was fortunate to meet an incredible trainer who taught me to trust again. We've shared countless moments of play, laughter, and cuddles. Through 'training', I've mastered commands like sit, stay, come, and leash walking. I've learned that pulling isn't appreciated, and I'm now a well-behaved leash walker. My trainer believes I'm a fantastic dog (even one of his favorites!) and with the right home, I'll continue to flourish and reveal my playful personality. I'm currently seeking a foster home or perhaps my forever family. I'm an adventurer at heart, ready to explore any terrain. However, due to my love for running and playing, an apartment setting wouldn't suit me. I require a home with a fenced yard. I need an experienced owner who can provide strong leadership and guidance. Without it, I might try to assume the alpha role. But with continued training, I promise to be the best boy! I prefer observing small children from a distance and am more comfortable with older kids. Therefore, a home without children under 16 years old is necessary. While I haven't been officially tested with cats, I suspect I'd be overly curious, making a cat-free home ideal. But I do enjoy the company of other dogs who are accepting and playful! Could my happily ever after be with you? Note: The training I received includes lifetime touch-ups. Once I've settled in, my trainer will provide sessions to help me adjust to my new home and offer group training sessions most Saturdays at local parks. Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All dogs are fully vetted, have age appropriate core vaccinations, and have been spayed/neutered and microchiped. 100% of the adoption fees go back to helping us rescue more dogs.

Our adoption process consists of an application, phone or face to face interview, home visit and reference checks. If you are approved to adopt from Tails of the Unwanted, you will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Go meet their pets

Our dogs are placed in foster homes around North Carolina and currently in the Concord, Charlotte, Greensboro, Winston Salem, High Point and Salisbury areas. We want our dogs to be placed in a loving and caring home and will arrange meet and greets with approved adopters.

More about this rescue

We are a rescue that networks and promote shelter dogs at risk of being euthanized at high kill shelters. If no one comes to their rescue, we step in. We are always looking for fosters and donations as well as volunteers so that we can continue to save the dogs who have run out of time at the high kill shelters.
