My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi my name is Canon! I’m not really sure where my name came from. At first, my foster dad thought I just be named that because I like to run around the yard like I was shot out of a _____, but then he realized that the spelling for that is CANNON. Then we thought maybe I was named after then camera company. But, I have to admit, I really don’t like my picture taken. All the beeps and the flashing light are kind of annoying, so I don’t think I can me named after a company that makes those contraptions! I see on-line that the word canon is derived from a Hebrew and Greek word denoting a reed or cane and and hence it means something straight or something to keep straight like a rule or a law. Rules, smules, I can’t be named after that. I also see that a canon can be a certain type of music where there is consistent note for note imitation of one melodic line by another. The most famous example is Canon in D Major by German baroque composer, Johann Pachelbel. Everyone has heard this because it’s very popular at weddings. My foster dad played it for me and it was so relaxing I fell right to sleep, so let’s just say I’m named after this famous tune!

Enough about my name, if you’re reading this you want to know about me, right! I was pulled from a kill shelter in Ohio and moved to a foster home in Michigan a few weeks ago. I’m about 2 years old and an a solid 30 pound dog. I’m in great health, neutered and up to date on all by vaccinations. I have really interesting coloring. I’m what is called a chocolate tri (yummy!). You see, instead of a black “saddle” and a black nose, I have a chocolate brown saddle and a brown or liver colored nose. I also have really light brown colored eyes. My foster family think I am just stunning and always tell me how handsome I am. Please have a look at my pictures! My foster dad also promised to make a video of me to and post it here, so please check back later for updates. My foster family wants to mention a few things, so. I’m off for now!

Foster family notes:
Canon has only been with us a few weeks, but this is what we know so far. We are working on his house training. He’s had a handful of accidents, but we are encouraged and think he will have it down in a few weeks. In the mean time we’ve purchased a belly band and this has really helped. If you are not aware, it’s material with velcro that you put around the boy’s belly. It will catch any liquids eliminated and this helps to teach the boys that potties should be done outside. We have also been crating him in our bedroom at night until he can be trusted. To be honest, he does not like it and cries and whines for 10 minutes or so before he settles down and goes to sleep. One of us works from home, so he has not been alone very much, but when we leave we crate Canon and our dogs. When he’s crated while we are gone, he’s been shredding his bedding, so we think he has some separation anxiety issues. These will also likely improve with time, but for now, it would be best for him not to go to a home where he will be alone for long stretches. He’s gets along really well with our cat and female beagle. We had one fight with our grouchy, resident male, but things seem to have settled down now and they frequently nap together. On the whole, he is a good boy. He is extremely affectionate and loves nothing more than to be next to you and give you hugs. He will make a good pet for the right home. Contact BREW if you think he might be a fit for you!
