My story

Tater Tot came to us very scared, and he is working on adjusting to being taken care of here at the shelter. He still does not understand what love and affection, but we are hopeful he will get there one day. He hides a lot of the time but when he is out he loves exploring the room he is in. He is FIV+ and should go to a home with other FIV+ cats, or be the only cat in the home. He would prefer a home with older kids, and no dogs.More information? More about this shelter

Marion Area Humane Society is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization incorporated in 1967 under ORC 1717. We strive to educate, assist and protect the animals of the Marion area. Since 1986 have operated a shelter to provide a humane environment for homeless animals. In 2011 several generous donors and grants made it possible for a shelter renovation and addition of a separate intake section. MAHS operates a open-admissions shelter with a guilt and fee free surrender policy, to encourage owners who can not properly care or maintain proper living conditions for their pets to do the best thing for the pet. MAHS also provides humane investigations and a spay/neuter voucher program for Marion county.
