My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATED BIO 12/03/2021:

Sunny Boy is a 3-year-old (estimated), 14-pound schnauzer mix. He is being fostered in Summerfield, FL.

Sunny was recently adopted but sadly his new home was not the right one so Sunny Boy is back with us and is now looking for a second chance at forever love. Sunny is a sweet, handsome boy with a SILKY SOFT coat. He looks small in his photos but his is actually a bigger boy at 14 pounds. While we don’t know for certain what his family tree is made up of ANYONE CAN SEE he is 100% PRECIOUS!

Before his rescue, Sunny Boy was picked up by animal control skinny, injured and in pain. The shelter contacted us to help and soon a UYR member arrived and Sunny got his Freedom Ride straight to the Dogtor. Numerous X-rays were taken and we learned that Sunny had a badly fractured pelvis, most likely the result of being hit by a car. He was evaluated by a veterinary surgeon specialist as well as a general Vet and both advised against surgery for Sunny. Instead they recommended confinement to his crate with very limited activity for 4 weeks in order to allow the fractures time to heal and that is exactly what we did. Sunny was kept comfortable with pain medication and given the care, love and support he needed and in time his broken bones healed.

But that isn’t the end of Sunny’s story. Sadly, Sunny has some broken pieces that aren’t visible on X-rays or to the naked eye. Poor Sunny suffers from separation anxiety and is prone to barking and howling to vocalize his fears when he is left alone. While we can’t know what Sunny’s life was like before he came to us, we can only imagine how traumatizing it must have been for him to become lost, get hit by a car, sustain multiple fractures, land in an overcrowded noisy shelter, be taken by strangers to a new home where he was confined (for his healing) and then adopted and returned in a very short time. WHO WOULDN’T be anxious after going through ALL THAT?!? But we are DEFINITELY BELIEVERS here at United Yorkie Rescue and we believe that with time and understanding Sunny can overcome his fears.

Our top priority for Sunny this time around is finding a calm, stable, and COMMITTED adopter who won’t give up on him. More than ANYTHING ELSE, he needs a patient, mostly stay-at-home person who loves him in spite of his fears and will help him learn to
manage them. As for the present time, when Sonny is left alone he WILL BARK and is also prone to puppy shenanigans like “exploring” the bathroom trash can and doubling as a canine paper-shredder. If you live in an apartment or share walls with neighbors then Sunny is probably not the dog for you.

Sunny has just arrived in his new foster home. So far he has been sweet, playful, and gets along well with the other well mannered small dogs in his foster home. He walks well on a leash, enjoys mealtime and travels well in a car. However, Sunny Boy’s former adopters owned an RV and liked spending time camping in RV parks. Sunny was NOT A FAN of being left inside the camper while his humans were out exploring so if you plan to take him camping you should ALSO PLAN to take Sunny with you on ALL YOUR adventures and not leave him behind. Sunny wants his FUREVER PAWRENTS to want to BE WITH HIM as much as HE WANTS TO BE WITH YOU!

If you think that YOU check all Sunny’s boxes then head on over to our website and apply to adopt him TODAY!
