Peace How ya doin’? I’m hangin’ in there with high hopes for my future. My last owner renamed me Peace, but the one before that called me Robert Downey Jr. Obviously, I am a very handsome 5-year-old dude with a cool golden-brown tabby coat, a crisp white bib, big green eyes, and four white paws. The interviewer lady (IL) said I even had little brown “straps” on my front ankles, like I was wearing Mary Janes. Whatever! I was neutered back in 2021 when I was a stray. I can’t believe I’ve been brought to the HSHC three times. And none of them were my fault! First, I was a 1-year-old stray, then the resident dogs in my home could not stand me, and finally, it was a police matter. Nobody can blame me for being reluctant to come back to the shelter. I was pretty bummed at first, but when I moved into one of the Roaming Rooms, with tons of room, big windows, toys, and water fountains, I cheered up! The IL came in to talk with me, and I ran right up to her, rubbing against her legs and chirping for attention. She sat down, and I climbed into her lap. I loved how she gave me chin rubs, cheek scratches, and neck rubs. I let her use her pencil as I rubbed my head on it to reach the itchy spots. She kept telling me how handsome I am. I could tell she was a smidge confused about my enthusiasm. All the while I was being petted, I purred, but I also yowled a bit, and my tail thrashed back and forth. She speaks pretty fluent “cat”, so I guess I was giving her mixed signals. I think it was because there were two other cats in my room. My latest owner said I was too playful and energetic for her two senior cats. My second owner reported that I am a super sweet guy who loves head scratches and playing with string toys, and I am litter box trained. So there you have it, my history and accomplishments. The IL is 100% team Peace. How about you? 2-27-26

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
