Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Nova is a female, 48 lb., (approximately) 18 month old, German Shepherd mix. Her small size and physique leads me to believe she could possibly have some border collie genes but her thick, black/tan coat is very much like that of a GSD.
Nova came to stay in the care of our rescue on Saturday, December 11, along with her litter of newborn puppies. She is being fostered in a home with a few human adults and other dogs of varying ages. To date, her time with the other dogs in her foster home as been limited while she needs to concentrate on taking care of her puppies; however, she has been very sweet and submissive during the little bit of time she was around them. Her human foster family, on the other hand, she absolutely LOVES to be around! For that matter, she adores every person she meets and greets all visitors with a beautiful smile and wagging tail. Unfortunately, her foster home does not have any cats so, we are unable to say how she’d be with them.
In the three weeks that Nova has been in our care, she has learned commands like “sit”, “paw”, “come” and is house-trained. She also walks decent on a leash but formal leash-training has not been a huge priority for her to master while she has puppies to tend to. She’s also only been on three car rides with us so far - the ride home from the transport and the rides to/from the vet’s office for her exam, which was on December 27. Not only did she do great in the car, but she also behaved like a perfect lady while in the vet’s office waiting room, surrounded by barking and whining dogs.
Now that Nova’s puppies are starting to get a little bit older and don’t need their mama’s constant attention, we will be able to provide more updates on how she is without her ‘little distractions’.
