My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Garfield is a friendly guy who head-butts and enjoys being petted. He will greet you at the door and snuggle on your lap if you put him there. He showed up at a feral cat colony but was clearly a former pet. Garfield was drinking a lot of water so we took him to the vet. His urine was very diluted, suggesting he is in the early stages of kidney disease (early because no abnormalities were found in his bloodwork yet).

The veterinarian said that Garfield does not need special treatment yet, but will need his blood and urine rechecked every 6-12 months. Once his bloodwork begins to show signs of lower kidney function, he will need to transition to a prescription diet. Although kidney disease can be slowed, it cannot be reversed and Garfield's lifespan will be shortened (typically 3-4 years from the stage he is in).

Garfield plays well with other cats (but please no dogs or small children). He is neutered, current on vaccines, microchipped, and negative for FIV and leukemia. Garfield's adoption fee has been waived since we understand that his potential owners would be taking on higher than usual veterinary expenses. Interested in adding Garfield to your family? More about this rescue

Camden Companions is a no-kill cat and rabbit rescue that is run entirely by volunteers. We find homes for a total of about 250 animals (cats, kittens, and rabbits) per year, keeping them out of local kill shelters.
