My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"FIONA" is a spayed, purebred female, born on 5/4/2003. She came into rescue with her littermate Foss because of allergies in the family.

Fiona is a great cuddler and kisser. She loves to crawl up into your lap whenever she can and plant great big wet kisses on your face. She is a very playful girl loves to chase the Frisbee and soccer ball around but usually waits for her brother to come along and actually get it back to you. Fiona is also good at that infamous border collie smile she will raise her lip and show her teeth to her brother whereupon he will just look, turn away, and we're sure he's saying "oh, there she goes again."

Fiona is a very typical Border Collie. She needs outlets for exercise and work or brain games. Without these outlets, she could quickly become bored so we are looking for an active person or family for her. She has been doing well staying close on walks through the big field at her foster home. The best life for Fiona would be at least 30 minutes of tongue-dragging aerobic exercise morning and evening. She is very athletic and would probably do very well in agility or even competitive Frisbee events. She has not yet actually gone swimming in the pond but does enjoy going in and wading.

Fiona will benefit from obedience training or a manners class (to help with the jumping up) so that will be requirement of her adoption. It is also a great way to form a bond with your new dog. Fiona gets along well with all the other dogs in her foster home. She has shown tendencies to chase the kitties while outside and we are not sure just yet the extent of her prey drive. We will assess that as time goes by but at this point, it seems as though a kitty-free home would probably be best.

Fiona has lived with children before so we will consider placing her in a family with well-mannered children. We would love to place her together with Foss, but will accept inquiries for a single dog as well. She is housetrained, crate trained, and up to date on shots and preventative. Fiona is being fostered in New York State.

IMPORTANT: You should always choose a breed/dog that matches your CURRENT lifestyle. Border Collies are not for everyone, and contrary to popular misconception, most are NOT typically “great family pets” and “wonderful with children.” (If that were true, there would not be nearly as many in rescue!)

Before inquiring about adopting a dog from us, we recommend you do a little research to find out if a Border Collie really is right for your family. For this information, and details on our adoption process, please see our web site www.NEBCR.org.

Please note that you MUST FIRST fill out an adoption application AND have a home visit BEFORE being considered for any NEBCR dog. Our rescue representatives cannot consider you to adopt ANY dog until your application has been submitted and approved.
