My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our sweet Cara came to us from a shelter that was just to busy and loud for Cara to thrive in. She is a middle aged gal who weighs 35pounds and is a bit shy and reserved by nature. Cara is looking for a quiet home with a family who is willing to give her time to fall in love with them!

Cara’s foster mom calls her a pineapple- sweet on the inside but a bit prickly on the outside, especially until you earn her trust. Cara can be a very sweet and loyal companion, but is particular in the things she likes and doesn’t like. She has bitten before (did not break skin), so needs an experienced home that is ready and willing to do slow introductions and be careful. This has been successful in her foster home. For the above reasons, young children are likely not the best fit for Cara. She does love the pre-teens in her foster home so older, repectful children may be. She is dog selective so introductions with other dogs would also need to be slow. She was initially “too interested” in the resident cat, but has now become her protector, so she *could possibly* live successfully with cats.

Cara's hobbies include enjoys chasing wild birds and balls! She is also house-trained and not destructive when left uncrated (but is crate trained). She would also be perfect for a retiree who is ready to kick back and relax!

We adore Cara and know we can find her a family who will love her just as much! Is it you?

Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all- volunteer, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and are scheduling individual adoptions in the Waynesboro, VA area during the pandemic. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries.
