My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shadow is an EXTREMELY intelligent, beautiful, absolute goofball of a dog! He loves to cuddle, and according to him, sleeping in bed with you at night is a non-negotiable (Lol). Shadow needs lots of stimulation, attention, and exercise - and will voice his opinion if he feels like hes not getting enough of it! With a very big bark and almost unlimited potential, Shadow has the capability of becoming an amazing guard dog, working dog, or adventure partner for the right person. Shadow is still in need of socialization with other dogs, as he does have anxiety and feels the need to protect his owner; but this can be overcome with professional training. Shadow LOVES to play fetch, tug, and de-squeak all of his squeaker toys. He knows basic commands such as stay, come, sit, jump, lay down, and get your toy, and knows many other human words (hungry, potty, outside, trip, walk, treat, etc.). Ideally, Shadow would fit into a home with a very active owner, who has the time to take him along for adventures. While Shadow can have anxiety in dog parks or around other dogs in general, he is wonderful for hiking or other isolated outdoor activities. Shadow would thrive in a home with one other dog, female, and no young children. Shadow would not do well in a home where he is left alone often due to work schedules, school, or other obligations. He is a needy baby in the absolute best of ways! Please visit our website heartsandtailsofhope.org to learn more about this amazing pet and to see other available dogs and cats.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption fee ranges from $100 to $250. Persons/families interested in adopting one of our dogs or cats must first fill out our adoption application. Once we review the application, if approved, we will set up a time for the person to meet the particular pet(s). If the person decides to adopt the dog/cat, we set up a time to do a home visit. Adoptions are approved after passing a home visit. An adoption contract is then signed, requiring veterinary care/food & water/exercise/affection for the dog/cat & a stipulation requiring the return of the dog/cat only to Tails of Hope, if necessary. All of our dogs and cats are fully vetted, spayed/neutered, HW negative/treated & on preventative.

Go meet their pets

All of our dogs and cats are in foster homes. People can visit our adoptable pets by appointment, or at one of our adoption events. Tails of Hope holds adoption events at the Waxahachie Petsmart on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month from noon til 4 PM.

More about this rescue

Tails of Hope Pet Rescue was incorporated in March 2008. We are a non-profit rescue and adoption group based in Waxahachie, Texas.

Tails of Hope is currently run by a small team of volunteers. We are all dedicated to rescuing animals in need, providing a safe environment for these animals, and matching the rescue animals to good families who will provide a lifetime of loving care for them.

The dogs and cats we have for adoption have all been rescued from various unacceptable living conditions, whether they came from animal control facilities, or were abandoned by their owners and dumped off on streets, bridges, or gravel pits. We rescue these unfortunate dogs and cats, and provide them with housing, food, medical care, rehabilitation opportunities, and love and attention, while we work to find a loving, permanent home for them.
