My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lou is a beautiful 5 3/4 year-old, 14-pound Yorkie boy who has just landed in his foster home near Ocala, FL.

Lou comes to UYR from a loving family who has had him since he was a puppy. Soon after Lou came along, life got busy for his family. Kids, multiple moves across states meant that Lou’s once calm life turned chaotic and unpredictable. Lou’s life evolved into one where he was constantly moving, surrounded by lots of kids, new people, activity, noise, etc and he started showing signs of stress and anxiety.
Lou is a beautiful dog and has the rarer black and copper coat. He is healthy and has been well cared for. He is house-trained. He loves leash walks. He is a good eater but he guards his food. He rides well in the car. He sleeps in his bed at night. Since arriving in his foster home Lou has made real progress. He was sad and confused and guarded at first but has begun following his foster mom around the home and occasionally when no one else is around he will “ask” for love. On day 3 he jumped onto the sofa and laid by her for an hour even with the other two family dogs present. Lou has growled in his foster home but most of the time he is timid and docile. He dislikes being awakened from deep sleep.
Requirements for Lou:

Lou MUST GO to an Adults only home. Also if you have young children or grandkids who visit frequently please do not apply to adopt Lou.

Lou’s Adopter must live within 150 miles of Summerfield, FL.

A home with No other pets is preferred for Lou. His foster Mom would CONSIDER a home with one other older, very calm dog. Lou has not engaged in play or interaction with his foster siblings. Do not adopt Lou to be a playmate for an existing dog because that is NOT LOU. Lou does not like cats so he cannot go to a home with them.

Lou loves to go on leash walks as is very good on a leash so he needs an owner willing to take him on walks daily.

A fenced yard is preferred because Lou has always had one but it is not an absolute requirement.

Lou needs his adopter to have patience and commitment to allow him to come around on his own schedule. Having a former pet with behavior challenges is a plus.
