Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Leona
German Shepherd mix
Female
4 years old
100 lbs.
Hey! Want to play, snuggle, and be my best friend for always? I’m Leona and I am just the sweetest, most loving gal who can’t wait to find my forever home!
True to my breed, I’m an intelligent, loyal pup who would love to find a human of my very own. I have playful energy and love a home where my human can help me get my energy out! And then once I’m tired out for the day, I can’t wait to snuggle in with you and be your best friend. I also am a wonderful hugger! I’ll jump up and embrace you face-to-face when you cross your arms together and say "up.” I reciprocate air kisses, too. It’s pretty adorable.
At home I roam freely, though I’m crate-trained. I know lots of commands: sit, stay, lay down, leave it and recall. I like to carry my favorite toys around the house and sometimes sleep with them. I’m eager to learn and I’d thrive in a home with an adopter committed to positive reinforcement training, gentle teaching, and breed experience (or a commitment to understanding German Shepherds and their intelligent traits!)
I do live with another dog in my foster home and we do great together! I generally do well with most dogs but some dogs I just don’t love for some reason (I’ve found I love about 75% of the dogs I meet and am not happy around 25%.) Therefore, I’ll need to meet another potential dog friend prior to adoption to ensure that he or she is my kind of pup! But if so, I love to play and would be an awesome dog friend. I would do best in a home without a cat friend. I haven’t met kids and I’d just do best in a home with adult humans or kids over age 10yrs old just since I haven’t had that general experience.
I do really enjoy having a backyard to play in so I’d prefer a home with a fenced yard because I need that free space to be outdoors without needing a leash (I also just do best in a quieter environment overall and an apartment situation would be really over stimulating for me.) I have been learning so much with my foster mom and while I do still pull a lot when I’m initially on a walk, I’ve learned to calm down after my initial excitement. I greet new people wonderfully on leash and while I can sometimes bark at new dogs on leash, I redirect really well! I’ll thrive so much in a home where my family is committed to positive reinforcement training overall and just helping me learn and grow!
One last note! I do have a manageable eye condition where I need to be on eye drops to ensure that my vision isn’t affected (the cost will be about $50 a month) and have a yearly check up with a vet to make sure the medication is working as intended.
So, like I said, do you want to play? If so, learn more about the adoption process and fill out an application at https://pawsco.org/adopt/adoption-process. Or contact my friends at PawsCo at adopt@pawscoadoptions.org if you have questions. I look forward to meeting you!
