My story

Monty came to EDCR after being surrendered by his former owner's family.  He unfortunately wasn't in great condition as you can see--ear infection, skin infection, eye infection, and the list goes on.  BUT--surprisingly, Monty was otherwise healthy!  No other major issues, which was such great news.

As you can tell, Monty is just a very laid back little old man--likely around 10 years old.  He is mostly blind, and has a hard time hearing, but he is *THE SWEETEST* little companion.  Obviously, he loves a good snooze (especially in his fluffy bed), and breakfast and dinner time are two of his favorites.  :)

While his body heals, Monty would be a foster to adopt pup--which means, the rescue covers his vet expenses through our veterinary partner while he lives with his forever family until he is ready for official adoption!  If you are interested in Monty, or our FTA process, please submit an application at

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. Each dog in our rescue is in a loving foster home, where they can grow, play, and recover from their time spent on the streets or in a shelter. If you'd like to meet an adoptable dog, please fill out an application on our website, Because we are a foster home based rescue a completed adoption application is required to meet our adoptable dogs.

Additional adoption info

Adoption process:
All potential adopters should complete our adoption application from our website Once we have received and approved your application, our Adoption Coordinator will contact you to arrange a home visit in which the coordinator will bring the dog or cat to your home. This is done to ensure that the home is suitable for adoption, as well as to introduce the animal to the humans and other pets to ensure they will get along. If everything goes well, the coordinator will have the adopter complete our adoption contract.

Adoption fees are as follows:
Cats - $50
Adult dogs - $175
Puppies (younger than 1 year) - $200

All dogs and cats are up to date on vetting, with age appropriate vaccines, and are spayed/neutered.

Go meet their pets

Since all of our adoptable animals are in foster homes, out of respect to our fosters, we do not allow visits in the fosters' homes. We will bring animals to potential adopters homes for a visit.

We also have adoption events every Saturday from 1pm-3pm at the Three Dog Bakery in Broad Ripple and Hamilton Town Center in Fishers, alternating between the 2 locations each week.

More about this rescue

We are an all-volunteer, all-breed rescue in the Indianapolis, Indiana area. We primarily pull dogs and cats from the Indianapolis Animal Care and Control shelter, which is a high-kill shelter.

We pull many healthy animals from the shelter, but we specialize in pulling dogs and cats who have emergent medical needs. We often take animals who have been hit by cars, or have serious injuries or illness. It's not unusual for us to spend $3,000-$4,000 treating an animal and getting them fully recovered from their injuries. We never pass this cost along to the adopters and keep our adoption fees low because most of these costs are covered through donations.
