My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nikita is the sweetest little meatball! At only 30 lb., this girl packs a looooot of love into that beefy little body.

Nik was picked up by Animal Control after being hit by a car. Assuming she had a broken leg, she was taken to the emergency vet... where they discovered she had not just a broken tibia but also 2 femur fractures that were already healing.

This 1-year-old girl has been through some stuff in her short life, but she has the *sweetest* temperament. She loves her foster parents, her canine and feline siblings, and her toddler human foster sib! She gets scared if people get too loud and will retreat to her crate. She loves walks, snuggles, and napping in whatever ray of sunshine she can find. For an adolescent, she's very low key!

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. Each dog in our rescue is in a loving foster home, where they can grow, play, and recover from their time spent on the streets or in a shelter. If you'd like to meet an adoptable dog, please fill out an application on our website, www.edcr.org. Because we are a foster home based rescue a completed adoption application is required to meet our adoptable dogs.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Adoption process:
All potential adopters should complete our adoption application from our website http://www.edcr.org. Once we have received and approved your application, our Adoption Coordinator will contact you to arrange a home visit in which the coordinator will bring the dog or cat to your home. This is done to ensure that the home is suitable for adoption, as well as to introduce the animal to the humans and other pets to ensure they will get along. If everything goes well, the coordinator will have the adopter complete our adoption contract.

Adoption fees are as follows:
Cats - $50
Adult dogs - $175
Puppies (younger than 1 year) - $200

All dogs and cats are up to date on vetting, with age appropriate vaccines, and are spayed/neutered.

Go meet their pets

Since all of our adoptable animals are in foster homes, out of respect to our fosters, we do not allow visits in the fosters' homes. We will bring animals to potential adopters homes for a visit.

We also have adoption events every Saturday from 1pm-3pm at the Three Dog Bakery in Broad Ripple and Hamilton Town Center in Fishers, alternating between the 2 locations each week.

More about this rescue

We are an all-volunteer, all-breed rescue in the Indianapolis, Indiana area. We primarily pull dogs and cats from the Indianapolis Animal Care and Control shelter, which is a high-kill shelter.

We pull many healthy animals from the shelter, but we specialize in pulling dogs and cats who have emergent medical needs. We often take animals who have been hit by cars, or have serious injuries or illness. It's not unusual for us to spend $3,000-$4,000 treating an animal and getting them fully recovered from their injuries. We never pass this cost along to the adopters and keep our adoption fees low because most of these costs are covered through donations.
