My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Liza von Lenterode is a beautiful, 4-year-old Shepherd mix. Sweet Liza is medium in size and energy level. She bonds quickly and wants to please. She is super-smart and very obedient; takes treats gently and already knows several commands (sit, down, stay, leave it, paw, twirl). This lovely girl is house-trained and okay with cats. On leash she walks well, staying close to her handler and being happiest when there is another dog accompanying them. Athletically-inclined Liza will probably do well in anything sports-related, such as agility competitions and swimming (she loves the water). She would be a great hiking buddy who will thrive with a job such as scenting, search-and-find, etc. At the top of Liza's wish list is an active home with another dog in residence and children 10 or older. Can you make her wish come true?

Liza von Lenterode is in a foster home, offsite, and is NOT at our rescue location in Los Angeles.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

In order to adopt any dog from Westside German Shepherd Rescue, one must fill out an adoption application first. Upon receipt of your application, a Westside adoption counselor will contact you.We do aerial home checks and you may be asked to supply pictures as well as arranging for a home visit prior to adoption.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and typically range from $150 to $500. They are set, taking into account the dog's age, training level, temperament, if they’re newly arrived, medical condition(s) (if any) and other factors. Adoption fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations.

******* Pre-approved applicants only *******

If you have submitted an online application but have not been approved by our volunteer, please do NOT come down to meet dogs as we won't be able to show you any. No on-site screening at this time. Once approved and told to come meet dogs, we will be happy to help you.
