My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The Fall beauty!

Hi guys! My name is October. I am a 4-year-old, neutered male, Lab Mix weighing around 63 lbs. I am here because The Animal Pad rescued me from Ensenada. I was skinny and had a lot of mange when I was rescued but now, I have a beautiful healthy black coat and healthy weight! I am crate, house, and bathroom trained! I recently graduated from a training program where I worked through my leash reactivity when seeing other dogs and now have some pretty stellar manners although I do need to keep working hard to maintain them. I would love to find someone who will continue to bring me out on adventures so I can keep up with practicing my manners.

Here’s a little bit about me! I am super sweet, goofy, and playful! I love to play and jump around, but I also love to sleep and spread myself out on the floor. Although… when it’s play time, I’m all in. I am very independent, I stay physically near/around you, but I’ll play and explore on my own. I will come to check in with you occasionally or when you call me. My favorites are tennis balls and squeaky toys, as well as lick mats with yogurt or peanut butter  I am very smart, I learn quickly and respond well to commands like come and sit. I’m very unique in the way that I have a personality and playfulness of a young pupper but also the manners of a grown up pup. I haven’t met cats but I love kids! Big kids may be best though since I tend to jump when I get excited. My favorite things to do are fetch, sleep, and sunbathe. Since I am a very special guy, looking for a very special home, I would love to do a trial period first, before adoption. You can also check me out on instagram at @oodles_of_october (www.instagram.com/oodles_of_october/)

I definitely need continued training in order not slip back into reactive habits, which come from overstimulation, not aggression. I would do best in a home as the only pet but should definitely go on plenty of field trips to stay well socialized. I need someone willing to set firm boundaries and stay active and social. I am an AWESOME dog when my training is maintained. I am so smart, eager to please, playful, and so loving. I would love a yard to run around and play in as I continue to work on my training.

"The Animal Pad recognizes that taking in a new dog can pose a challenge to the entire family. Due to his size and leash reactivity, October’s adoption package includes a FREE four-week scholarship with our partner Goodpup (https://goodpup.com/). Goodpup offers virtual, individualized training to ensure you, your dog, and your family have the skills needed to thrive together. GoodPup Scholarships include:

  • 4+ weeks of positive reinforcement training

  • 24/7 chat for questions and support

  • Access to a behavior team to assist in advanced cases"

My adoption fee is $200 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
