My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet Nikki was discovered living outside next to an abandoned building, her owners left her chained up 24/7. She had been there for over 2 years when a kind lady Karinola first saw her. She was living in a horrific situation, she had no food or water left out for her, and her ears were full of ticks.

Karinola posted photos of Nikki online and people joined in to try and help her. Food and water were put out for Nikki and she also got medicine for the fleas and the ticks. A Rescue offered to help and a small group of us started to organize. First, she needs to be freed, she had a chain around her neck and two locks. The chan was eventually cut and the locks needed to be removed at the vets. Nikki was living in a sad situation but she seemed to have nothing but love to give to the people nearby and the kids who lived in the neighborhood, they often stopped by to feed her.

Nikki received vet care, she received her shots and was spayed. She was treated for some of the health issues she had developed from living outside like Ehrlichia, liver failure, and anemia. At that time Nikki had a rescue interested in helping her. They used her donations to pay for her spay and vaccines. They asked the transporter to foster Nikki and when they didn't get photos of Nikki within 24 hours, they decided they didn't want her anymore. We never heard from them again.

So Nikki had no one but us.
We gave Nikki her medicine, good food, and supplements to help her health, and just when we thought she was better and ready to find her forever home she started showing signs of being sick again, her nose was congested and she was having trouble breathing. She was tested right away and tested positive for Distemper. She went to Dr. Melecio Hernandez right away for treatment. He has a reputation for helping dogs survive Distemper. Nikki stayed for 4 weeks at the vets and 3 weeks in quarantine. She did very well with their treatment.

After Nikki was cured of Distemper, she went back to her foster's. Her foster bathed her and gave her lots of love. We were hoping that Nikki could stay with her and her family forever. Sadly, they couldn't adopt Nikki and couldn't foster her anymore due to a long summer vacation they had planned.
We reached out for help online and the owner (Jennifer Grey) of a board and train in Los Angeles offered to help with a discounted rate for Nikki to stay for 3 weeks. With the help of donations, she was able to stay a couple more weeks.

Nikki has met many people along the way and each person she meets seems to fall in love with her. She warms up to people quickly. We know Nikki is not good with other dogs, she does not like them so she will need to be in a home where she's the only dog, even better, a home with a backyard that she can run around in. Her training helped us to find out more about Nikki, we know she's an amazing dog, but she has some limitations. Hopefully, her perfect person will find her soon.

Her foster commented that Nikki is a very calm and noble dog. She doesn't bark unless there is an intruder. She doesn't chew things, she loves belly rubs and playing fetch with a stuffed toy.
