Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Annie von Anhausen is a gorgeous 11-12 month old German Shepherd.
Hai! My name is Annie, and I think I’m around 12 months old since my foster mom says I still have puppy floof. Westside took me in after I was bound by my back legs and dragged behind a truck when I was just a puppy! I lost my toe and have a boo-boo on my leg, but I didn’t lose my love for people or life. I am being fostered right now, and there is one thing I can tell you. I love my small(ish) human. She is teaching me to fetch, tug, sit, and down, and I have already learned how to use the doggy door! She’s also teaching me what toys are mine and which toys are hers; it’s been a while since I have had options. I also met a tiny human and was very polite with my manners. I even came to the rescue of a neighbor child that fell down and gave kisses until all the tears dried up. I am a natural, I was told. I live with a furry foster brother named Flynn (he’s a really cool dude), Penny (She’s about 4- but my size, a little neurotic, but sweet), and a Stella (hers is an elderly and cranky Shiba Inu- so I just walk around her). I love playing with everyone and watching how Penny and Flynn play together- taking notes. Mom and dad say I am really confident when meeting new people. I like to be in the middle of the pack when I walk with the big dogs, and I love smelling and looking at all the new sights. I am also doing really well in my potty training journey. Sit and lay down. NAILED IT. Unlike my foster siblings, I also have a beautiful deep bark and have ONLY used it when appropriate. I have a gentle mouth when taking treats and play very gently. I would love a home where I could have someone to play and cuddle with. Someone who will throw the tennis ball for me and play tug with. A nice bed would be great too. I am not sure if I will ever be an endurance athlete because of my owie foot, but it won't stop me from being an active girl. I am an absolute angel that would complete any home.
Annie von Anhausen is in a foster home, offsite, and is NOT at our rescue location in Los Angeles.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
