My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You know the famous line from "Gone With the Wind" when Rhett says to Scarlet --"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." Apparently that's what everyone has said to THIS Scarlet for the last 372 days. This dear sweet senior belle has been languishing in a shelter kennel for over a year. Before that, her owner kept her in a crate almost 24/7 for 9 years. It's absolutely amazing that she still has the sweetest temperament and spirit for a dog that has been ignored all of her life. People have walked by her kennel, even said hello, but not one person has applied to adopt her. Every day she patiently waits, looking through the chain link fence, hoping someone will notice her enough to realize how wonderful and deserving of love she is. Catch her eye and It takes just a bit before she starts wagging her tail with utter joy, then rolling on her back for belly rubs. She is so grateful for the smallest of gestures. SCARLET is a hound mix, 10 years young, 55 pounds. She is in great health, spayed, house broken, and walks well on leash. She knows how to sit on command, but if you ask her to do that in grass, she will not be able to resist the temptation to flop over on her back and roll -- feeling the wonderful earth (instead of concrete) beneath her. We know there is a loving home out there just for SCARLET. A home without other pets as she is unsure of other dogs and mostly because she deserves to have all of your attention. She would be fine with older kids as she is sensitive to loud noises and hugging that younger children are inclined to do. SCARLET is asking for very little in her golden years -- frankly, she's just asking that you give a damn about HER. That you provide a warm bed to sleep on, a sweet and gentle hand to pet her, and all the love you can muster. Contact Patti at patti@therescueexpress.org. Please help us give Scarlet the freedom she deserves as soon as possible. Video available.
