My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pumpkin came into rescue because her "momma" had a heart attack and surgery and ended up having to go to an assisted living facility. Pumpkin has not had much exposure to either other humans or to canines in her four and a half years of life. She had just been with her sole human.

Pumpkin was a scared little girl when she came in to rescue, but within a week, and after a trip to the groomer, blossomed into a beautiful princess. She is very shy and scared of new humans at first, but she will adjust to new situations within a few days. She has also adjusted quite well to canine companions and has been totally fascinated with the pack of four she has encountered in her foster home.

She loves to get hold of a stuffed toy and brutalize it with great pleasure. She is very willing to share that pleasure with her human companion when she has the chance. She loves to explore new surroundings and has a natural curiosity of everything she encounters--open a closet door, a refrigerator, a cabinet door and in goes her nose.

Pumpkin would make a great companion for one or two adults and would return every bit of love and affection she could be given. She sticks like glue to her foster dad's side and follows every move. She would probably do well with another small breed canine that would be accepting of her as well.

Her potty training has been much better than thought. We were told that she was mainly paper trained, but it only took her about two days to take the lead of the pack of four other canines and charge out the back door with them, terrorize the rabbits in the yard, do her business, and come in for her treat.

This sweet little girl deserves the BEST!

Due to having treated several heartworm positive dogs recently, we DO require past proof of h/w tests & preventative given if you own a dog. We do NOT consider it proof if you have just had the h/w test done or bought preventative for the first time prior to or after putting in an application.

Out of the Area? We will gladly do a "long distance" adoption, however we do not ship our dogs. We expect you to come and pick up your dog. As all our dogs are in foster homes in different places, that would mean you would need to travel to the foster home to pick up the dog (not necessarily in St Louis). Family members or friends are not allowed to pick up the dog unless the adopter is with them. We will not consider an adoption out of area without a vet and groomer reference.

We do not place dogs in homes with toddlers and babies. Please read the shelter home page for placement restrictions prior to submitting an application. Our group does have a policy of only placing dogs in homes where all pets are spayed or neutered.

Our Adoption fees are based on the age of the dog and range from $350 to $200 each, and are used to pay the vet expenses. All dogs are up to date on shots, heartworm negative, spayed or neutered and any known problems are treated before they can be adopted. Last year our vet bills were $3000. higher than our adoption fees, so we are not able to adopt dogs without an adoption fee.
