HISTORY: JouJou Jewel’s story is as unique as he is. Before arriving in Canada, he was found as a kitten on the streets of Egypt. When he was rescued, he was brought to a clinic. They never came back to pick him up. As a result, he spent the next 2 ½ years living in a cage with minimal socialization. He would get one hour a day out of his cage to play. That was the only freedom he ever experienced.

As a result of his confinement, he developed some nervous, anxious behaviour. At first, it was thought that he had a case of something called Wobbly Cat Syndrome. Also known as Cerebellar Hypoplasia, CH is caused by an underdeveloped cerebellum and affects a cat's balance and coordination. It causes cats to be jerky or “wobbly” in their movement.

Luckily, JouJou was deemed a mild case because he was able to walk straight (many cats with this condition walk in circles), he didn’t fall (many CH cats do) and he could easily maintain his focus (CH cats can be challenged on this too) especially when he's getting love and attention. :)

When we brought JouJou to Canada, we put him with a very special and trusted foster family. It was their job to assess him and see what his limitations were as well as what his personality was like so we could match him up with the perfect family.

PERSONALITY: In the approximate ten months this beautiful boy has been in Canada, he has transformed into a very different and dare we say, normal, cat.
It is now believed he was misdiagnosed for two reasons. First, he is 100% deaf. This was not discovered in Egypt. Being deaf can affect balance and cause unpredictable responses if there are sudden movements that come from behind or are unexpected. Second, being in a cage for so long could cause anyone to act erratically. The boredom and restlessness he would have experienced is enough to make anyone go insane. If he has any trace of CH, it would have to be the mildest case in the world.

The other challenge he had when he was ‘released from prison’ was he had to learn to socialize with both humans and other cats. Because he is so intelligent and sweet-natured, he adapted quite quickly and easily. He wanted love. He wanted to play. He wanted affection. This came all very naturally to him. Though he is at a disadvantage because he is deaf, he is in a foster home with other cats and dogs and he gets along very well with all of them. He loves being an active part of the community.

As you can see in his video, JouJou has no problem walking, running (he loves to run up and down the stairs), playing with his four legged friends, chasing toys, etc. He especially LOVES to play with string toys/laser pointer and will turn into a “flying ninja” in dogged – or should we say catteg :) – determination to get it.

An avid fan of Nature TV, if he spots a squirrel out the window, he will stop whatever he doing and be on the job.

Though he is an active boy, he also enjoys hanging out with you as you watch TV and will sleep with you at night. This lovely Soul is a happy and content fella.
Along with cats and dogs, the handsome lad is also great with older kids (teens plus) who are calm, kind and respectful of him (i.e. no pulling tails or picking him up against his will).

JouJou is loving, curious and very responsive. A funny and quirky love bug, his huge personality lights up any home.

IDEAL HOME ENVIRONMENT: This Jewel is making up for lost time. He would do well in a happy, active and interactive family that is as full of life as he is, either with or without a furry buddy.

International Adoption Fee: $500

PINK’s adoption fee is determined on a cost-recovery basis which includes the pet’s vetting (varies for each animal depending on the situation and circumstance of their rescue), microchip, up to date shots, de-worming, de-fleaing, spay/neuter, all travel and flight costs, government mandated fees (in Egypt and Canada).

Our goal is to help as many homeless cats and dogs on the streets of Egypt as we can. 100% of your donation goes back to the Egyptian rescues to help them recover their costs. Not only are you saving this animal's life, you are also helping to save another animal's life because the pet you just brought home has now opened up a space for the rescues in Egypt to offer to another animal in need.

Please email us at thepinkvibe@hotmail.com to request an adoption application for JouJou Jewel. Please also share a little bit about yourself and why you feel he is the perfect fit for you and your family. Thank you. :)

NOTE: If you don't receive a response from us within 24 hours, please check your Junk/Spam folder. If it is not in there, please resend your email. Thank you.
