My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rainie!
Rainie is a female 3-4 year old 55lb Shepherd / Pit mix.

She is currently being fostered in Davis.

Rescued from Madera Animal Shelter we don't know much about her past life but are committed to making sure her future is only filled with happiness. Rainie is very gentle and sweet with humans. She just wants to be loved. In the house, she’s easy going when you're around and a true velcro dog.

-- Activity Level: Moderate energy: Rainie loves to run around the backyard in the morning. We’ve been going on 2 short walks every day and taking breaks to play outside a few times per day. When she’s inside, she’s typically fairly relaxed (other than following us around!)

-- Favorite Activities/things: Rainie would love nothing more than to have a human who is happy to snuggle up with her! She loves to play with other dogs, and she also loves to play fetch. A WFH schedule would be ideal or flexible work schedule.

-- Experience with dogs? cats? kids? if applicable or known: Rainie is very appropriate and playful with other dogs. She tries everything she can to initiate play: playful barking, play position, rolling over in front of the dog she wants to play with, etc. Her foster brother isn’t interested, and she’s mostly okay with that, but she still tries! Rainie also tested great with other dogs at the shelter and was the go-to tester dog / playground dog.

Some minor resource guarding (warning growls, snapping) when the resident dog gets close to her bed or crate. This has been managed by picking up food, toys, and her bed, using a baby gate to minimize contact, and using a place command for resident dog. She does great with him outside. The inside world and confined spaces seems new to Rainie so she is still trying to figure that stuff out but a quick learner.

She has a strong prey drive w/ regard to chasing squirrels, and she’s very interested in cats, but sometimes she responds neutrally to them on walks. We would recommend a home w/ no kitties.

-- Temperament: She’s timid at first – she’s just not sure about humans yet! But once she warms up, she likes to lean against people and get pets. Overall, she’s very gentle with all humans.

-- Any fears/dislikes? Afraid of sudden movements and sudden noises but She has already been gaining confidence her first week in a foster home! She doesn’t like baths, and she especially doesn’t like water sprayed her direction (fearful of me watering the yard).

-- House-training info: No accidents in the house! She’s not totally sure what to think about house noises and movements yet, but she’s getting used to it.

-- On-Leash: Walks well on leash. She meanders but does not pull. She’s afraid of people running up behind us, and she likes to pause and wait for cars to pass.

She's done well in car rides, no car sickness, and getting more used to car rides every time.

-- Barking? Only when she’s trying to get another dog to play or when she wants out of her crate.

-- Crate trained or crate training? Working on crate training.

-- How reacts to being alone? She prefers to follow her humans around. If she can’t, she will lay down and wait. Non-destructive thus far.
