Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This gorgeous girl has a past that we will never fully know but can only conclude was not a good one. Ellis arrived at the Maricopa county shelter with burns on her head, neck and back that had penetrated all layers of her skin, leaving open flesh from her head to her tail. She sat at the shelter for a month, receiving no medical care, and no adopters wanting to bring her home. After one month, she was put on the euthanasia list. When we saw her pop up on there, we knew we had to help. She didn't deserve to die in the shelter, in that state, without receiving proper medical care and a chance at a life far different than the one she had previously known. Ellis had behavioral notes of not allowing much handling, which didn't come as much of a surprise considering the extensive pain she felt with every touch. Amazingly, an angel foster stepped up to take her in, and we were able to save her.
After more than six weeks of medicated ointments, her skin was almost fully healed, and so was her spirit. We then moved Ellis to our trainer to work on basic obedience, socializing, and reactivity to other dogs. She completed four weeks of training and has remained in boarding with our trainer until we can find her forever home.
Ellis is now fully obedience trained, and loves showing off her skills. While she has been working on her reactivity when seeing other dogs, she will forever need to be an only pet in the home. It's part of her story that we cannot change, but we will be the first to tell you that this girl is sweet as can be and would make an incredible companion. She is young, healthy, strong and active. She adores running and playing. She would love a big back yard or an adopter who will take her on daily walks, runs or hikes. Watching her speedy, playful zoomies might be the cutest thing ever!
We are looking for a home with no children and adopters with breed experience. She is a total girl's girl and prefers females, but she can warm up to men. Her adoption fee includes her completed veterinary exams, spay, microchip, vaccines, completed 4-week training program and an additional session with our trainer so her adopter can learn all of her commands. Apply using the link below to come meet this special girl. If you truly want to change a life, Ellis has been waiting for you.
