My story

We are not accepting any additional inquiries or applications for Charlie and appreciate the overwhelming interest in adopting this sweet boy. Thank you!

I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other great dogs in need. Thank you!

Charlie is a handsome purebred Golden Retriever who is about 2-3 years old! He has been with his former owner since he was a puppy. Unfortunately, his human mom has developed health complications that caused her to be neglectful in caring for Charlie so a family member called on Sunshine for help.

Charlie is good with dogs, cats, and children. This is a sweet, sweet boy who thinks he's a lap dog and loves to cuddle on the couch. Charlie is friendly to all he meets and his foster mom and dad rave about him! He has wonderful house manner and loves playing in the water and mud.

Charlie weighs about 60 lbs. He has been neutered, is up-to-date on vaccinations, and is micro-chipped. Because his former owner did not keep him on preventatives, Charlie has been going through heartworm treatment and will be coming north to his forever family on 6/18! Charlie has an Adoption Pending but says, "Be sure to check out our other wonderful SGRR dogs! They need homes too!"

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun.

If you would like to be part of Charlie's rescue story, and you have already been approved for adoption through SGRR, please contact Donna Toncic to be considered to adopt Charlie.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

SGRR ADOPTION FEES - Effective May 1, 2020 (subject to change)

$750 Puppy - up to 6 months
$650 Young 6 months - 6 years

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.

Additional adoption info

Applicants with no dog ownership experience may not find they are a good match for one of our Rescues. Rescue Goldens come with 'baggage' and very little training so they require people that have an understanding of the nature of dogs and a willingness to work and seek help with one of our Golden Rescues if needed. The adoption process has proven to be very successful for all. Our goal is to place rescues in their 'forever' homes and to do so, we need to determine is the best match not only for the dog but for the adopters. The Rescue's Committee determines what type of home the Golden needs and what type of dog would fit best in the applicants' homes. This has proven to make all involved very happy. For more details or to complete an application, please visit our website at www.sunshinegoldenrescue.com For those applicants that are willing to wait for the right 'match' and not shopping around, please feel free to apply and get pre-approved.

More about this rescue

We are a network of volunteers based in New England who are dedicated to saving and finding homes for Golden Retrievers and Retriever Mixes in need. We have volunteers throughout the North East including Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Vermont; as well as volunteers in the South East. We work to save homeless Golden Retrievers and Retriever Mixes from shelters, municipal pounds, and dogs released directly from owners who can no longer care for them. We do our best to assess each dog's medical needs, temperment, behavior, habits, and exercise needs. Each dog receives necessary vet care including all vaccinations and are spay/neutered before adoption if old enough. Heartworm testing is performed and if positive, the dog is treated. We then carefully select homes based on the needs of each individual Golden. Everyone of our volunteers has a desire to save as many homeless dogs that we can. Individually, we can only rescue so many dogs in need. As a group, working together, we can help more Golden Retrievers and Golden Mixes find their forever home. Our common thread may be our appreciation for the Golden Retriever, but if we could, we would save all dogs in need. Our group is always in need of additional volunteers and fosters to help in the process which can be extremely rewarding. Other ways to help would be to make a monetary donation. For information on volunteer work, fostering, or to make a donation, please go to our website www.sunshinegoldenrescue.com Your help will be extremely appreciated!!
