My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Amaya! This beautiful 3.5 year old border collie mix is as sweet and soulful as they come, with a sad origin story.

When she was just a few months old, Amaya was homeless and wandered onto a large industrial lot in south LA with another pup friend. Sadly that friend was soon hit by a truck and died, leaving Amaya alone to fend for herself for about 8 months. Some mean people tormented Amaya by trying to scare her and chase her away, leaving her terrified of humans. There were a few kind souls who would leave her food and tried to befriend her, but due to her past experiences, Amaya was too afraid and would just run away.

RFTH was brought in to help and after several attempts, we were able to rescue her and bring her to safety. Thus began her rehab journey.

Through our other dogs, we were able to show Amaya that our intentions were pure and we would never hurt her. And dog friends have proven to be the key to helping Amaya heal and learn to trust. She absolutely LOVES other playful, well-balanced dogs and having at least one to follow is critical to her continued rehab.

Amaya is incredibly shy when she first meets people and needs a patient and experienced parent who’s eager to be part of the rehabbing process. Once she knows you, she LOVES to give kisses, sit for treats and catch food flying thru the air. We believe she would enjoy continuing to learn tricks and different ways to please her person.

Amaya is quite a squirrel chaser and can spend hours protecting the yard from a possible invasion by them or any other imminent threats- like leaves falling from a tree.

Going for walks is one of Amaya’s favorite things to do and she is an absolute dream on leash. She’s learning to go on other forms of adventure and would benefit from a human that would enjoy continuing to help her thru new experiences.

Amaya’s breed has strong herding tendencies and therefore she thinks it’s her job to keep the pack in line (though she really would prefer not to). Because of this she needs another dog that is a leader, is confident and well-balanced, and that she doesn’t feel she needs to correct. And another dog that is playful with her and brings out her inner puppy would be her absolute dream.

If you live in Los Angeles or surrounding areas, have another well balanced playful dog, a safe yard and a lot of love/patience to give, please visit our website to apply to adopt Amaya: www.rescuefromthehart.org/adopt

We are volunteer based and will do our best to get back to you within 72 hours. Please do not call as our phone is intended for emergencies only. If we feel that one of our dogs is a good match we will set up a private meet and greet We do not have a physical location where you can come and meet all the dogs at once, so meet and greets may take a little time to coordinate. Our requested adoption donation is $350 and all adopters are required to fill out an adoption agreement.

The Rescue Promise

There is an old Chinese proverb that states: “If you save a life, you are responsible for that life”. Rescue From The Hart honors this philosophy with every animal that we rescue. When we say “yes” to a dog or cat in need, we are making a promise that we will provide them with anything they need to be happy and healthy, for the rest of their life. This means never cutting corners, never take the easy way out and never looking at one of our rescued as just another number. We make the same commitment to our adopters by going the extra mile to help educate them, support them during tragedies, and be there to offer solutions if their lives happen to get turned upside down.

When you support Rescue From The Hart, you help enable us to continue making the “Rescue Promise” to homeless and abandoned pets everywhere!
