My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Mama & Baby

Mama [fawn colour] and Baby [Bi Colour] ... came to us when their owner could no longer care for them.

Their adoption fee is $300/dog for a total of $600 for both and they must be adopted together.

There's a lot of uncertainties with these two dogs, but here's what we've been told and what we feel may not be accurate, and ultimately, you'll be adopting without actually confirmation.

We're told they are actually Mom and Baby, but I'm not convinced that's factual.

We are told they are spayed, but we can not confirm, so contractually, if one or both go into heat, we will need to be advised and the spays will happen, at our cost at our veterinarian.

Mama we're told is 12 years old and Baby 6 years old. Our vet feels they are likely both 8-10 years old, but that's really just a guess.

Mama is likely chihuahua but baby looks mixed with chihuahua and rat terrier maybe or Jack Russell Terrier. But that's just a guess.

We were told they are bonded. They are not a bonded pair. They love one another and find comfort from one another, but they can head off for walks and be in different rooms on their own without issue. That said, we will only adopt them together, as that's the promise we made on intake, but we'd love to see them live somewhat separate lives to keep the relationship and mindsets healthy.

Here's what we know to be factual and want for these special girls:

They are amazingly sweet dogs, happy to give love and be loved.

They've had very little socialization in life, so the world around them is super scary, but they are beginning to embrace it day by day, but still lots of startles and uncertainties on walks, but they also do love getting out. Baby more than Mama, but both manage well with the support of their foster Mom.

They have no behaviour issues and would be best suited to a home that is quiet, without kids. They are in foster care with another dog and doing fine. A home with a wonderfully big backyard that they can safely catch sunbeams from and a roll in the grass, or an adopter that can get out for park strolls with their pups, and has a balcony for them to feel the summer breeze on their face.

Someone that works from home or is home most often.

Keep in mind, chihuahua's can live up to 20 years, so we want to ensure they never have to transition to another home again, so a dedicated and committed adopter for many years to come.

A home full of love and compassion for two small dogs that will continue to help them be the best versions of themselves.

Mama weighs in at 13 pounds and is a bit overweight but not anything awful. Baby weighs in at 15.5 pounds and is absolutely obese. She needs to be on a strict low fat diet and get out and walk off those pounds daily. She should weigh in and around 9 pounds as a healthy weight.

Looking for a couple gals to fill your life with love? These pups are waiting for you!

FROM THE FOSTER:

Mama and Baby are the sweetest pair!

These two little ladies are a little bit nervous on first meetings (they are shy with all new people so far) but once they warm up to you they just want to snuggle.

They will nap on your couch next to you or on their dog bed all day if you let them!

When they are not snuggling with you, they like to snuggle with one another. They love chest scritches and belly rubs and will try to both get your attention at the same time for pets (this is why we have two hands!).

They are very quiet during the day and have been really good work from home companions. They only bark when they hear noises at the door but can be easily quieted.

We have been working on going on walks, which is not something they have seemed to have been very accustomed to from their former life.

Mama gets pretty anxious on walks, and tends to pull on the leash back towards home after a short time, but every day she improves noticeably! Baby likes to explore, and is a curious pup! She likes to walk right by your side and sniff everything. They are completely fine with three short walks per day. Baby can go on longer walks if she is taken out separately.

Baby has never had an accident in the house. Mama still relies on pee pads from time to time.

The girls don't seem to have a lot of training--they don't seem to know even basic commands. We have been working on "sit".

These are two exceedingly sweet and gentle older ladies.

We have not noticed any guarding or snappishness with them all--they have been truly love bugs since arriving at our house.

If you are looking for two loyal couch companions, you have found the right girls.
