My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

April 2023: Dottie is thankfully now heartworm negative. She is just doing so well post her spay too. Dottie is the most timid of the 6 Setters we brought in from southern Illinois but when she is not afraid, she is very silly and she just loves to play with toys. She would do best in a home with a confident dog buddy and she is great with cats. Dottie will need an adopter that is patient and one that understands she is not doing to be a dog that will do well on daily walks. She is a great cuddler and she loves her daily philly cheese with her supplements. She is also afraid of the dark and needs to be coaxed outside when the sun goes down-- but I usually go out with her to make sure she potties. Dottie also needs a safe fenced in yard so that she can chase birdies and squirrels. Her recall in the yard is perfect-- she always comes running when I call her if she is busy running around. Dottie also feels safe in her cage and I will find her in there during a storm. I can't imagine how traumatized she was living outdoors in that horrible pen all those years in all weather. Best she go to a home without children as they probably would scare her.

7-02: Dorothea aka Dottie is another tri-color and white Setter that was pulled in from southern Illinois. She also has heartworms and Lyme disease and her lymph nodes under her neck are enlarged. We hope the longer she is treated that those will reduce in size. I was told Dottie was 6 years old but she seems younger to me. She is what we call a pocket Setter as she weighs in at 35lbs.

Dot is in our heartworm slow kill program and has already had her first dose of heartguard and topical Advocate. She is also on 2 antibiotics for her Lyme disease. House and cage training are going very well.

Our hope is to find a foster to adopt home for Dorothea in the Chicago area as we can't spay her until the end of September.
