NIGEL is a 3 year old English Bulldog who has spent his entire life at a puppy mill. Puppy mill dogs have little or no positive human exposure and are more often than not kept i small cages in an over crowded barn and may never even touch the ground or see the sky. We are not sure of the conditions that Nigel has come from however he is extremely shy and somewhat shell shocked by the whole experience. Nigel needs a person who can take baby steps with him and teach him to trust humans without feeling sorry for him and thus adding to his insecurities - a fine line to tread. Nigel needs a home with another dog to follow around and help teach him the ropes. A securely fenced in yard is a must. Nigel is learning to go outside to potty in his foster home by following the example of his canine foster brother & sisters. He will let hisbfoster mom approach him and handle him but No one else can in spite if months of trying. We feel he will bond with a new caretaker in a new home just as he did his foster mom - with patience akin to befriending a wild animal. Nigel clearly has a long way to go. He does have some separation anxiety (which sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it?) but his foster mom is able to leave him for 2-3 hours when he is safely separated in a Nigel proof bedroom. He can walk a leash but is easily frightened and a flight risk - if he were to get away be would never be recovered - also a fine line to tread - needing to socialize him while keeping him safe. Nigel will be like taking on a second job at first but with lots if time and lots of patience you will be rewarded tenfold. Please fill out an application at www.companimals.org.
