Alfie and Siri are a bonded pair of special needs cats who have Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH). The cerebellum is responsible for coordination and other things. CH can be mild to severe and they are in the moderate range. They have poor coordination and balance, but can walk. They cannot jump or climb. They use puppy pads for elimination instead of a litter box and do pretty well with that. They actually only go potty once a day. Alfie can occasionally use a litter box. They are very sweet and loving, especially Siri. Alfie has had seizures in the past and has medication in case he needs it. He has not had one in quite awhile. Because they cannot jump or climb they are great candidates for an area that you would not want cats climbing all over. They do like to explore, but should not have the run of the house. They need to be close to their potty pads if they haven't pottied already that day. If you are still reading, then maybe you would be interested in learning more about CH kitties. Please do some research online before deciding if they are right for you. This link offers a brief explanation, but there are several sites on the internet and you are welcome to contact me with any questions. They have been in foster care all of their 2 years of life and deserve a home where they don't have to compete for attention. Please email me at scratchcats@gmail.com for any questions.

S- Saving homeless

T- TNR,
C- Connecting with cat advocates and
H- Helping cat caretakers.
We are a cat welfare organization that concentrates on helping feral cat colony caretakers manage their colonies through TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return). The outcome of managed colonies is fewer free roaming cats, healthier colonies and no new kittens. This will keep more cats out of shelters and result in less euthanasia. You can see how this is preferable to the trap and kill method that has been common in the past. During this process, we acquire friendly cats that have become homeless and found their way to the food source, and kittens that are young enough to socialize. These are the cats and kittens that make up most of our adoptable population.
All of our adoptable kitties are completely vetted and are observed for personality and behavior. Our kittens are given constant human contact and interaction and most are completely socialized to people by 3 months. We will sometimes have a few slow learners and we keep working with them, but we will also offer them for adoption, so their new owner can complete the socializing process. The advantage to this is having a cat that is totally bonded to you. The disadvantage is that they are often shy around others for quite awhile.
Our adoption process requires an approved application before setting up a meeting with our kitties. You can access this application on our website www.scratchinc.org. Click on adoption application and fill out the application completely. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
