My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

** Pippin is currently in a foster home, and he is available for adoption! Email applications@chicagocaninerescue.org to set up a meet + greet! **

Pippin is a truly extraordinary pup with some special needs—and he’s looking for someone just as extraordinary to love him. Poorly bred by a backyard breeder here in Chicago, Pippin came to CCR as a tiny puppy. He’s grown up in our care, learning, thriving, and stealing hearts along the way… but he’s still waiting for the right adoptive home.

Pippin is a truly extraordinary pup. This double merle Border Collie may be deaf, partially blind, and navigating some neurological quirks—but none of that dims his spirit. He’s affectionate, intelligent, and thriving in his foster home… now all he needs is you.

His foster dad has showed up and changed his life with patience and routine. We think his adopter will continue with calm leadership and patience. He thrives with structure, consistency, and someone adaptive and understanding—ideally a dog-savvy adopter who knows how to meet the needs of pups with sensory and neurological challenges. He`s a little different.

Pippin loves fetch, and he’ll proudly drop his toys at your feet for another round. Tug-of-war? A favorite. Walks? The best part of his day!

Pippin is ready to be someone’s heart dog—the one you go the extra mile for, and who gives that love right back tenfold.

More about this shelter

CCRF was founded in 2001 to help find permanent, loving homes for homeless dogs in our city. In just over seven years, CCRF has saved the lives of over 2,000 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies.

CCRF now assists the animals that are the MOST vulnerable in Midwest - the dogs and cats that are slated for euthanasia because they are too old, too young, injured, have disabilities, or have simply been overlooked for too long by potential adopters at other shelters.
