Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Cher - UMDR# 022-0705
Fostered by - Sara and Rich
Cher's Rescue Was Sponsored In Loving Memory Of Jethro
By Elizabeth Bruce
Cher is a beautiful 2-year old, 42 lb, female Bluetick Coonhound who was rescued from a shelter. Cher is a happy adventurous girl who is up for anything! Cher has incredible potential and is looking for her person, she thrives off connection. In return, she is a sponge who is ready and willing to impress you! Cher is all things hound; happy-go-lucky, curious, sweet in nature, and at times even mischievous :)
Here Is What Cher's Foster Family Has To Say About Her
Cher has been a joy to foster and something about when she smiles at me just makes me smile! Cher matches her surroundings, she is a goofy girl who loves to romp around and get silly. It is apparent that before coming to us Cher had no idea what was expected of her in a home. She is 2 years old, but seems comparable to a young pup. Cher is an incredibly healthy girl with a shiny coat that has moderate shedding. Cher also has beautiful pearly white teeth! She makes new friends wherever she goes. Her expressive ears and soulful eyes win just anyone over!
In Cher’s perspective new people are just friends we haven’t met yet. Everyone has the potential to throw a toy for her and wants her love. She can be a bit energetic for tiny humans but she never has malicious or ill intentions. I believe Cher would be best suited for an adult home or older children as she doesn’t always exercise personal space with the littles, and has a difficult time deciphering what is hers and what is tiny humans toys. Cher is not shy to meet new people at all. When she is unsure of something she will howl, such as when she knows it’s bedtime but really doesn’t want it. She will bounce around let out some howls and then oblige. Cher does not enjoy water either, she’ll hide from the rain unless it’s for a walk. She runs out does her pee and comes running back to shelter. At the beach she’ll happily walk along the water’s edge with zero desire to hop in for a swim. She will however follow her person in and make the most of it. Throughout our time with Cher she has always had a kind, playful, disposition. It’s safe to say she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body.
Cher also loves canine friends! Always ready for a good romp around. Cher is a busybody at times and, for the sake of the older dogs in her foster home, we have to set boundaries with her to not be an annoyance to the other dog. She responds well to these boundaries.
Cher has an incredibly high prey drive, she is a natural hunter dog always protecting our yard and keeping it critter free. She would not be suitable for a home with a cat.
Cher would be perfect for an active home! She does best with 2 walks a day as well as some training sessions. We are currently working on roll over! She is craving that connection, bond, and loves the time spent with her person.
Cher has a beautiful big ole howl, she only uses this howl to alert something is wrong or she has caught a critter! Her howl is all part of her mystique, the coon crank one person called it!
When it comes to food in the house, Cher will follow her nose!! It’s important to be cautious what’s left around, and reaffirm what she can have. She has been working so hard to be a good girl and show restraint, she does need encouragement and reinforcement but she responds and understands what is expected of her. She has learned that listening is what she needs to be a good girl!
Cher is crated when unattended. She has learned her crate is her space. When she first came to us she really did not like her crate whatsoever, now her crate is something exciting as we have utilized bones and kongs that she only gets in her crate. So she associates the crate with all things awesome! She is good in her crate for about 6 hours, she will fuss if she needs to go to the bathroom!
Cher’s favourite things to do are walk and sniffffff! For Cher to be her best self she needs sniff time! Cher loves her toys and she loves to play fetch with you or on her own! She is a nosy girl, always in her look-out spot, keeping track of the back yard!
Cher has a big bark and will need a family who embraces that, as it is how she communicates.
When she initially came to us she had zero commands. She had not even a clue what or who a “Cher” was. I am happy and proud to say she has learned she is, in fact, Cher. We have nicknamed her CherBear. She has a good recall in the house and yard, she has learned sit and lay down, we are working on shake a paw and roll over. She will do literally anything for a tasty treat and pets! Cher is fully house trained. She is clean in her crate and has a regimented crate routine, she thrives off structure and guidance since she had zero clue what to do with home life when she came to us. Proud to say she has been accident free!
Cher has come very far with her leash training. She absolutely loves her walks and sniff time. She is respectful on leash and sticks close. She typically doesn’t bother with other people or dogs on walks, she’s too happy to be out on her walk. She is a hunter at heart so we have been mindful of critters on walks and remind her “no hunting, with me” and she obliges.
Cher is incredibly motivated and has improved leaps and bounds in listening to what is asked of her, but her instincts at times over power her desire to impress her person.
Cher is great in the car and is excited for adventure.
What Cher needs now is connection and bonding with her person. She would make a beautiful single person companion, a soul dog for someone to share life and adventures with. She is capable of great things and just needs consistency from her forever home. She has had a lot of moves in her short life and is awaiting her forever home to have a stable environment where she can settle into an active routine to be her best self. Cher is good with children of all ages but can be a bit busy for a busy home. Adult home would best as she requires devotion and time to keep improving her skills. She would be an excellent candidate for fly ball or sporting of some sort as she is incredibly food motivated and an intelligent hound dog!
If you think Cher would be a good fit for your family, please submit an application for consideration on our website: https://www.uglymuttsdogrescue.com/adoption/adoption-application/
