My story

Hi, I`m Mack! A lot of people tell me I have the best smile and can turn anyone`s day into a happy one. As you can see from my pictures, I really love toys. I love fluffy ones, squeaky ones, ball shaped ones, rope ones...I think you get the idea. I also love people and am not bothered by other dogs in passing. Here at the shelter I love running fence lines with another dog friend and chasing each other. I would need some time to decompress in a home before living with another dog.

I went on a sleepover with one of my shelter besties `Mack proved to be a wonderful house guest! He spent the day/night with me in my apartment downtown where he rode the elevator like a champ and was unphased by the busier downtown life. He did great passing other people, bikes and dogs on the sidewalk and was very friendly meeting new people. Mack didn`t bark at any of the strange apartment sounds, showed good signs of being house trained and slept through the whole night in his crate (although the door was left open if he wanted to explore). He spent most of the time self entertaining by playing with alllll the toys, leaving no toy untouched. It was so wonderful to see Mack start to decompress outside the shelter. My favorite thing about him is that no matter what, he always has a giant smile on his face and I just know he`s going to be the best friend to whomever is lucky enough to adopt him.`

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
