My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Mack! This smiley boy has been living his best life in foster for the past few months and is ready to find his forever!

Mack loves making new friends and greets everyone he meets with a super speed tail wag and wiggly butt. He is a medium energy snuggle bug and has proven to be a great work from home companion! More often than not he can be found peacefully sleeping at his foster dad’s feet while he works.

In between his daily naps, Mack loves to play with toys or spend time outside. He would be best suited as an only dog for now but will provide you all the loves of 100 dogs. Mack has proven to be non-destructive when left alone, even for extended periods of time, and is fully house trained!

Mack has had a long journey in the shelter system. He first came into AAC in 2019, then adopted a year later only to be found stray again in 2022. Yet, despite his past, he hasn`t let it dampen his spirits or fade his amazing smile.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
