My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Frank! 8 week old German shepherd mix pup (best guess).

Here is what Frank’s foster family has to say about him:

“He is really sweet and chill. He has nice manners and doesn’t jump up on the counters, furniture or people. He is getting used to wearing a collar and we’ve been practicing a bit with a leash on in the yard. He has learned sit and down, and comes easily when called.

He’s doing great with potty training to go outside (previous foster said she mostly used puppy pads with him inside). He really likes other dogs and is well received by them. I think he would really like a forever family with another dog because he looks to them for guidance and enjoys their company. He’s not super confident, which could partially be from age of or lack of life experience.

He is eager to learn and seems to smile when he’s successful at something. And while he lacks confidence, he’s not timid or afraid (if that makes sense). He has done fantastic with our family cats in meeting them and not being too rough/overly excited with them.He is mellow and kind with kids. Doesn’t chase or bite. Easily redirected with a toy and not mouthy. I’ve been taking him to school pickups and he sits in the truck for lots of kids to come meet him- he’s a total love.

He rides well in the car- once you get him in the car. I think he is nervous to go in the car because that has probably been limited to foster transfers and vet appts. So we have been going to drive-thru places to get coffee and treats, and school pick up for the kids to create some positive experiences of riding in the car. *wish he was fully vaccinated so we could take him to lots of fun places in the car :)He is doing great with crate training.

He sleeps for 3-4hours stretches at night and has been left during the day for an hour or two. Very polite when being let out of the crate, but not super excited to go in the crate of course.”

Ideal home will:

Have the time to commit to all things puppy! Please note puppies do not do well left alone long hours and need to be let out every 2-3 hours for potty. Long work schedule where the puppy would be left alone for 7+ hours can be difficult on most puppies and young dogs.

Solid plans for puppy socialization, positive exposure and continued training + relationship building -- commitment not just to puppyhood but to a lifetime of love, care, companionship and vetting. HFP advocates for Positive Reinforcement only for young puppies and training that focuses less on "obedience" and more on confidence building, relationship building and consent training.

Preference to homes w/ friendly & well-trained dog role models (preference, NOT required)

Preference to homes w/ yards (preferred, NOT required) Why? Puppies cannot go in public until they are 4 month old and complete their puppy shot series. Having a yard during this time greatly helps with play, potty training, and providing an outlet for your puppy to get outside. There are ways to work around this if you do live in an apartment setting but it takes some extra work and planning!

$450 adoption donation includes first shots, dewormed, flea tick treated, microchip w/ free lifetime registry + Spay/Neuter addendum agreement.

Interested in adopting?
1. Please complete our online form at heartsforpawsrescue.com/adoption-application
2. We will respond in 1-3 days for a call!
3. If it sounds like a potential match for you and the dog of interest, we will promptly set up a meet and greet at the foster home

Please note we are a foster-based rescue meaning our dogs are in individual foster homes throughout sac and the bay. For this reason we may only be able to schedule meets for one dog at a time (or litter). The average timeline between app submission and a meet and greet is 3-5 days. Please only submit an application for a specific dog if you are ready to adopt that animal within a week's time.
