My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rudy (a.k.a. "Little Man") is a healthy 2-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix. He is neutered, housetrained, and has been vetted. He is full of personality! He is sweet, extremely cuddly, doesn’t like to be alone, and loves toys! He does know commands such as sit, off, laydown, stop, and heel. He is crate trained but prefers to be out with you and sleep with you. Rudy was abandoned by his previous owners, so he does have some abandonment/ anxiety issues when left alone (his foster parents said this has improved the longer he has been living with them). He is mischievous (as all puppies can be at two), but not house or shoe destructive; however, don't turn your back to your food for too long!

Rudy could benefit from some behavioral training, specifically, how to greet visitors when entering the house and leash aggression issues with both bicycles and other dogs walking with their owners. Outside of those two items, he walks well on a leash. He is food-motivated and smart, so he will train quickly with consistency and the right approach. He is best suited for experienced dog owners or someone who will invest their time in retraining him. There is something truly special about him, and I would love to see him find his new forever home that will treat him like the prince he knows he is! To learn more about Rudy or the schedule a meet-n-greet, please contact Kimberly Pantke at 631-988-7845 or via email at kimberlypantke@yahoo.com.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our goal is to make the adoption process as thorough and easy as possible. If you are interested in adopting a dog, the first thing we will ask you to do is complete our online Adoption Application. Upon review of your application, a decision to approve or decline will be made. If approved, we will schedule a time for your to meet the dog you are interested in adopting. If there is a match, a home visit will be conducted before the final adoption decision is made. Once the final approval is made, an Adoption Agreement is signed and the adoption is complete.

More about this rescue

Happy Tails Dog Rescue is a foster-based registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing, vetting, and rehoming dogs from kill shelters in Southern Florida. We are a husband and wife team, together with a small team of volunteers who rescue, vet dogs, and rehome dogs who are about to be euthanized. It is our goal to provide the necessary veterinary care, grooming, and attention they may need to ultimately place them in forever homes.
