My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Hockey. She is a 6-year-old Shar-Pei with a beautiful hair coat and no skin or ear issues. Hockey weighs 49lbs. She was surrendered to her boarding kennel after being boarded for 18 months. She was then surrendered to our Rescue. Hockey is a beautiful Shar-Pei. She took a long time to bond with her foster family as she had been boarded for so long, she was not sure if she could trust again. She wasn't abused, she just didn't have the family interaction that she needed. Hockey had entropion surgery on one of her eyes while in our care and it looks wonderful now. This is a Shar-Pei trait, more often than not. Hockey is very typical of the breed. She will be standoffish until she bonds with the family or a family member. She is quite good with the other foster dogs but not puppies. She does not like dogs in her face. She does not trust other dogs so should be the only dog in the home. Hockey took a long time to want to eat at the beginning. We tried various foods but once she bonded, she was game for any brand of food. She is fed twice daily 1 cup of dry food with a bit of warm water. She is allowed to sleep on her foster parent's bed and shares it with a few of the other dogs. She does not snore. Currently, she is bonded particularly with her foster Dad who is very experienced with Shar Peis. Hockey is not high-energy. She is happy to sit on the couch and watch TV with the family members. She sometimes is protective in the car but not always. She is very clean and housebroken. Hockey has not been raised with children. She does not like cats. Hockey does not like to be boosted up into the vehicle or car. She will hop in on her own. She does not require a crate and is not destructive. This breed is not overly affectionate. She does not give kisses but once bonded she loves to give hugs and snuggle. The ideal home for Hockey is one where the family has owned this breed currently and previously. This breed is distinct and not for everyone. As she has not been raised with children that we are aware of, any children in the home must be older than 12 years plus and have had lived with a Shar-Pei before. . The family should enjoy walking and socializing with their dog but knowing the breed, they become protective on the lead. They are not food motivated, though do like to eat. A high-energy family will NOT work, as they tend to get riled up when there is a lot of activity. They prefer more of a quiet home. Hockey is spayed, up to date with vaccines, 4dx tested negative, has had entropion surgery, and is on heartworm/flea/tick prevention during the season. A fully fenced yard made of wood, and Veterinarian History of Compliance are mandatory to apply for our Hockey. Also mandatory are no children under the age of 12, no cats, and adopters must have owned this breed previously.
