My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sootie von Schwartz is a delightful 3 month old Shepherd mix puppy.

Hi, my name is Sootie, the cutest girl on the block! I am a very friendly 4-month old medium sized shepherd mix (maybe retriever?) who is the social butterfly in my foster home. I love all of my family’s dogs – large and small – and love to romp all day in the yard with my brother Boomer. But my VERY favorite things are my hooman family -- I especially love to give them hugs and kisses and follow them around the house! My foster mommy tells me that I’m so smart – she drops me a treat or two when I perform my ‘sit’ and ‘stay’ commands. I love to climb into her lap after a long day of playing, and dream of my forever home. I sleep through the night in my crate like a big girl without any accidents. She also says I am a medium energy girl who is one of the friendliest and easiest puppies she’s ever fostered. I promise to be such a great family dog for my forever family!

Sootie von Schwartz is in a foster home, offsite, and is NOT at our rescue location in Los Angeles.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
