My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sara Piper is a sweet girl, approx 7.5 yrs old (as of 8/2022), she with a sad recent history. Not a lot is known about Sara's earliest time, except that she was rescued as an older kitten, which probably is what makes her more shy than most cats. But, an older woman saw her and decided to adopt her. Even with just the older woman in the house, Sarah took a long time to get used to her new human mom. Once she did though, she was loving and sweet. Sadly, her human mom passed away in early 2021 at the age of 95. The woman's daughter had hoped to be able to take Sara with her to her house, but her existing cat did not like Sara at all! So, as a last resort, Sara went back to the group that had originally rescued and adopted her out. Sara got along OK with the other cats and did not seem to mind them. There were no fights but Sara was apparently sad and missing her human mom. She didn't eat a lot, and finally she quit eating altogether. Nothing they tried could convince Sara to eat. It got so bad that Sara ended up in the the animal hospital and had to have a feeding to put in. The biggest challenge came because Sara's original group was not a Foster care organization - they had a physical building which meant that Sara was not going to be able to be fed as many times a day through her feeding tube as she needed. The Cat Network was asked if we would possibly be able to take her. We happened to have a medical foster who did not have any current fosters and was willing to take Sara in. She tolerated the feeding tube meals well, but the big question was - when the feeding tube came out, would she start eating on her own again? Thankfully, she did! She was then transferred to you her current foster home where she decided she would be a kitchen cat. It has taken a long while, but Sara finally Is trusting of people again and loves to be petted. Like a lot of cats, she is still unsure about a hand that comes directly to her head, but if you hold your hand out she will sniff your fingers and start headbutting you - and then let the petting begin! She loves to be brushed with a slicker brush.. She has also been seen playing with toys - like Catnip mice or balls. She has branched out and now comes in the living room to look out the windows at the birds, and snooze in the comfy bed on the bench. Sara is currently eating an exotic mixture of regular over the counter cat food, that seems to mimic the smell and flavor of the expensive prescription food she had initially been on. Adding in some Purina urinary formula has also helped to keep her healthy. Sara is not a very big cat; she has a sweet squishy looking face and a shorter tail. Sara would absolutely love her own home with her own people. She would be perfect for an older couple or single person who might be retired or semi retired and home quite a bit. She would also probably do best in a small apartment or retirement facility where there are few places to hide...like a lot of people - she assumes that hiding is best -- but when you see her watching the birds and squirrels and catch her swatting toys, it makes you smile. She is a fantastic companion who would provide lots of arm exercise during petting and brushing (it's like a game of chicken-- who will quit first?).
