My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

heartworm positive

Lagos is just a big ball of love and somewhat unaware of his size. He has come leaps and bounds since coming into HBR as a stray. He lives with an 11 yr old human child, with who he is obsessed. His fur siblings are two big dogs and a little old man Brussels. He also has fellow foster sister who weighs about 8lbs and he loves her, which is progress as he used to see little dogs as prey. He does have an issue with other large male dogs so he would be best in a home with female dogs or small to medium males. He also needs a strong handler who will teach him boundaries.

He is vocal when he wants attention or needs to go out but is more endearing than annoying. Lol. He will sneak onto a couch or bed in stealth mode but obeys when asked to get down. Lagos loves to be around kids but they should be 8 and older, just because of his size and goofiness. He is potty and crate trained. While he loves to go for walks, he will try to chase cats and squirrels. Oh and absolutely NO cats in his home. When it is family time, he just wants to be close to his humans. When foster mom is around, he lays on the ground close to the small human. When foster mom is not around, the small human lets him get on beds and couches and he cuddles like he just cant get enough affection. Lagos is such a sweet boy who is so deserving of his own family. While his foster family absolutely loves and adores him, they want him to have a forever family so they may continue to foster other dogs in need.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

How the Adoption Process Works

An adoption application must be completed by every prospective family. Why, you ask? Because we consider you pivotal to the successful forever future of a VIB (Very Important Boxer)! You may fill out an online application or if you e-mail us, we will supply a Word document to fill out.

Please be patient with our nosy questions. We understand the application is lengthy however, each question has a reason behind it. A complete application helps us discern the perfect match for your family! It also demonstrates a level of commitment on your part. Our boxers are not "just dogs" and our adoptive families are not "just people"!

An incomplete application form must be sent back to you. This causes delay and disappointment, two words we would rather not have associated with your HBR experience. Let's work together!

Continue to check the e-mail address from which your application was submitted. When your application is processed, we will attempt to make contact both by e-mail and phone. Keep in mind we are an all volunteer group. Although we have families and jobs that take precedence in our lives, we work hard to save the breed we love! We are committed to doing our best to facilitate the adoption process and make it as pleasant as possible!

When the application is received a volunteer will contact you to schedule a Home Visit. There is a $25.00 Home Visit donation which is nonrefundable and considered a charitable donation for tax purposes. (Note: If you complete an adoption, the $25.00 will be deducted from the appropriate Adoption Donation listed below) This policy is in effect for reasons we will be glad to discuss with you when we meet.

The Home Visit Volunteer will be your point of contact within HBR until such time you are assigned another volunteer (due to scheduling or geographical reasons), or your adoption is completed. Pending approval, an appointment will be set for you, (a Very Important Person), to meet our Very Important Boxers!

Once you have had the Home Visit please do not confuse us by submitting questions via info@houstonboxerrescue.org . This too will delay the adoption process. Your Home Visit Volunteer will be more than happy to assist you!

Minimum Adoption Donations:
Pure Bred Boxer Puppy (up to 9 months old) $300.00
Pure Bred Boxer Adult (10 months through 5 years old) $250.00
Pure Bred Boxer Senior (6 years old and over) $200.00
Mixed Breed Boxer Puppy (up to 9 months old) $250.00
Mixed Breed Boxer Adult (10 months through 5 years old) $150.00
Mixed Breed Non-Boxer Puppy (up to 6 months old) $200.00
Pure Breed Non-Boxer Adult (10 months through 5 years old) $200.00

The Adoption Donation is nonrefundable and considered a charitable donation for tax purposes.

Each HBR dog will be fully vetted, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and if necessary treated for heartworms prior to adoption. We are committed to disclosing any and all information we obtain concerning every dog in our program, to the prospective adopter. You will receive veterinary records, rabies certificate, identification tag, and your very own wonderful new family member!

For Choosing Houston Boxer Rescue,
We Thank You!

More about this rescue

OUR MISSION
Houston Boxer Rescue (HBR) was born out of a deep love for the Boxer breed and a desire to help end the suffering of boxers due to neglect, abuse, or abandonment. We dedicate ourselves to insuring that the dogs in our program get the second chance they deserve and never find themselves lost, alone, or abused again.
___________________________________________

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit all volunteer, total foster care (no kennel facility) organization. HBR is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, health, and re-homing of abused, abandoned, neglected, or owner surrendered boxers inside the Houston Metroplex and beyond.

No officer or volunteer within Houston Boxer Rescue is compensated for their services. Rescue is a commitment of the heart, a labor of love. We are serious about changing the lives of boxers that come through our program.

Our goal for the dogs we rescue is a loving and secure forever future in a home that has been vetted by an experienced volunteer. We strive to match the needs and character of a particular animal to the home environment of an approved adopter.

Houston Boxer Rescue depends totally upon donations from like-minded, compassionate people. If you are an individual, a business, or a corporation that believes in our mission, please consider a tax deductible contribution today. Remember to inquire as to whether your work place supports matching donations.

Experience the joy that results from saving the life of a boxer!

Thank You,
Board of Directors: Houston Boxer Rescue
