My story

Meet Gertie.

Gertie is an approximately 5 year old Australian Kelpie mix. She came to us from a Good Samaritan who picked her and her four pups up off the streets on Ensley, Alabama. Gertie is very particular about her people. She LOVES men and typically prefers them to anyone. She's okay with most women but there are one or two that she's met that she just didn't like. She likes other dogs as long as they’re younger and smaller. She recently spent the day cuddled up with a hound mix pup she had just met that morning. We do recommend her to be adopted for a single dog home; however, she can be tested with any potential fur sibling if local to our rescue.

Gertie is located in Alabama and being housed with a foster here. The adoption fee of $175 includes all age appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, current flea/tick & heart worm preventative, microchip and a certificate of health from our veterinarian (for transport required adoptions). You will also receive a copy of all medical records in a pet health record folder. (Transport to out-of-state locations is an additional fee, depending on location.)

Pita & Pecan's Animal Refuge is a woman veteran owned and operated 501(c)3 nonprofit, Alabama based rescue. All of our animals reside with us at our homes or with a foster. We adopt our animals both locally and out-of-state in order to allow us to find the best possible home for our furbabies of all breeds and species.
