Hi friends! My name is CHARLIE and here is some info about me:
PHYSICAL INFO:
RESCUE STORY - My story is one that is all too common here in Mexico. I was living on the streets with my "owners", although I likely would have been better off alone because these people were addicted to drugs and were very abusive to me. Despite being the goodest boy, I was beaten. I thought I had caught a lucky break when I was rescued, however my "rescuer" kept me in a confined space and continued to abuse me. Fortunately, a second rescue saved me for good! I was moved to a doggy pension here in Mexico where I was given the freedom to play and socialize with people and dogs... all without fear of abuse. I lived at the pension for 6 months now before bbeing moved to a foster home in Mexico City, where I now have two foster siblings. Our foster parents take us to the dog park every day where we loveee to play fetch and socialize (video)! I am SO ready to find a furever home where I will receive all the love and understanding I so deserve.
TEMPERAMENT - I am a super friendly boy who LOVES human attention. Seriously, I would be happy to have pets and affection all day long! Once I understand a command, I am very obedient and loyal to the core. Even when I was rescued, despite the abuse I had endured, I was friendly to my rescuers. I had bouts of nervousness and could get defensive if anyone approached me with an object in their hand, no doubt as a result of my past abuse. Since I was rescued a second time, I have truly flourished. I share space with other doggies at the pension and in my foster home and have become much more playful. I have gained confidence now that I know I am safe. Truly, feeling safe has completely changed my attitude. Check out my videos - I am a playful, giant teddy bear. Guilty pleasure: I love chewing on empty water bottles (video) and I loveeee playing fetch with a Kong (video, video 2, video 3), hehe!
Full disclosure, I am a big boy who doesn't know my own strength/size sometimes. I need to work on my awareness of my weight/strength, so having an adopter who is familiar with my power breeds would be really beneficial. I hope to find an adopter who understands that I need structure in my life. I need a confident owner who will help me continue to flourish.
I have met and interacted with children without incident, however it would be preferred for me to go to a home with kids 12+ (just because I'm a big boy who could knock over a youngin' by accident).
ENERGY LEVEL - Medium - I play hard but I crash hard too. Once I've had sufficient daily exercise, I am a pretty chill guy who is eager for affection and love. An adopter with breed experience would be ideal for me so that they can help me exercise in an environment where I'll be set up for success (structured walks, appropriate doggy play time, obedience training etc.).
GETS ALONG WITH:
PREY DRIVE - I’m not too sure how I’ll react around cats/squirrels/rabbits etc. My adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.
TRAINING:
Please Note: WCP Dog Rescue partners with Unleashed Dog Training (Hannah Swain, Balanced Dog Trainer) to offer adopters 50% off one training session (not including tax and applicable gas surcharges). Any subsequent sessions will be offered at standard rates. WCP also highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.
HEALTH NOTES:
