My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Penny is nothing short of a miracle. She fought so hard to survive after being run over by a car that severed her spine in 3 places, and at only a few months old. She then dragged herself around the neighborhood in southern Texas, where the driver left her to die. For 2 days, every single human that saw her, ignored her. Not ONE a human helped! She finally collapsed at the fence of a home and you would have thought she died by the looks of the photo taken by a boy that lived there. After he posted that to Facebook, it was sent to the rescue and well, the journey to saving Penny began immediately.
Penny has made it very clear that she wants to live, despite so many vets telling us to euthanize her. She is now 9 months old. The road rash that covered most of her body has healed already, and while she will never be able to move her back legs, this girl is definitely not a shrinking violet. She absolutely loves life, loves playing with other dogs and can’t get enough of kissing all the human angels that have become a part of her beautiful journey, so far. She is SUCH a sweetie pie! But, there really is nothing cuter than seeing her and her foster sister, with the exact same paralysis, play and bounce about on the grass. Your heart will quite literally beat out of your chest with the glee you feel watching them.
Happy as can be and without a care in the world. Penny is great in her wheelchair and also just dandy pulling herself around. Her legs drag behind her and she’s got an adorable collection of onesies and drag bags that help protect her little legs, as she roams around, to her heart's desire. The great thing is, though, Penny doesn’t feel it! She only feels happiness and love and it’s so obvious and truly infectious, every moment spent with her. Penny is likely to need a larger surgery to help prevent rectal prolapses which she has been suffering from. She’s just great in her diaper, so long as she has a loving mama that will keep her clean and keep her close until she can get her surgery. Penny is SUCH a special angel. We believe she fought so hard to stay here and bless lives and that’s why we wanted to fight even harder to keep her here. We know there is a human mother out there for her that will commit to her and cherish this girl and watch her, in amazement, as she thrives and continues to bless so many lives with her zest for life and her sweet, sweet soul.
