My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Asteroid, and I am a gorgeous 2 yo long haired black and brown GSD. I was found tied up to a fire hydrant in front of the Richmond, CA. Shelter and was taken to the Martinez Shelter where I ended up on death row.

Luckily, Martina Animal Rescue saved me from the shelter at the 11th hour. I was in a foster home briefly, but it wasn't a good situation. They kept me outside all the time in a very small crate where I couldn't even move around. So, I was placed in a boarding kennel until I find my forever home. I have been there for more than a year. I really like the people there and I make the best of it, but it sure would be nice to have a home and family of my very own. They do tell me every day that I am a great dog and that they love me and this makes me feel so happy.❤️

I just found out that the Boarding Kennel I am in is closing at the end of this month. I don't know where I am going to go now and I am very worried and sad. I hope I don't end up back at the scary shelter.

I am reserved and nervous when I meet new people (especially men). I think this is because my original human abandoned me. But, once I know you and trust you, I am a very loving and affectionate dog. My humans tell me I am smart, curious, love taking walks and am easy to train because I love their treats. I also really like meeting other dogs and playing with them. My friends tell me that I would make an excellent personal protective dog.

Wouldn't it be nice to be happily greeted at the door every time you come home by your best friend and know that your home and belongings were safe and sound.

If you’d like to meet me please contact Martina Animal Rescue at martinaanimalrescue@yahoo.com or text Laura at 916-996-5777. I'm located in Walnut Creek, CA.

More about this rescue

We are a non-profit rescue organization who helps rescue dogs and sometimes other animals from Contra Costa Animal Services as well as other local shelters; usually the scared, overlooked or often the ones off the euthanasia list. We also rescue dogs who have been injured or abandoned trying to keep them from having to go into the shelter after looking for an owner. We then place them in foster homes to decompress and learn to be part of a family as well as learn structure and boundaries. If needed and we can, we also have trainers that help prepare our dogs for adoption.
