Hi, I’m Brie. I’m a small girl. Just under 14#. I’m around 11 months old and I’m deaf. I am 100% a lap dog - a stealthy lap dog. You won’t even know I’m there until you sit down, and I pop up. You can’t hear me or see me coming because I’m so fast. My foster mom is always turning in circles trying to find me when I’m right there under her feet.
Because I’m deaf, I scare easily. My scares can lead to a little snap/bite. As soon as I know it’s my human, I stop. I don’t bite down or snap to be mean, merely just because I’m scared, because I’m deaf. I have a cute squeaky high-pitched bark and squeal when I’m playing! I do have a sassy side that will make me snap. I don’t’ like to be turned on my back nor do I like my feet touched. I kinda gnaw at you when you’re doing either… it’s less than a bite. Foster mom has been working with me on this, telling me how good I am every time she tries to rub my belly or touch my feet.
I play hard with my friends. Don’t let my size fool you. I hold my own with the big dogs in my foster home. One of my foster friends is my bestest friend.
From foster mom: this girl is sweet as can be with a few tweaks that will need to continually be managed (mentioned above). Part of me thinks she will be ok as an only dog as she loves to be in your lap. The bigger part of me thinks that she needs a play buddy or she will get bored and get into things she shouldn’t. She destroys her toys and cracks me up doing so. She gives them a life of their own with her antics.
While I think she would be fine with kids, I might be concerned with littles that are close to her level. With the reactionary (deaf) behaviors I’ve seen, I’d worry that if a little one fell on her, she might (not purposely) turn and snap at them.
I believe she had a command or two down before she came to me. She sat for treats before I showed her how. We did conquer the crate issue in about a week or so (the first week was a bear…she made me chase her all over the house). She has learned a signal for coming inside as well as staying at the top of the stairs.
**THIS IS A BIG DEAL** She is a master escape artist. We have worked hard on her not being allowed out the door prior to her human. With her stealthy moves, you have to be on top of this. We had two occasions that she had to be grabbed o so quickly to keep her from going out the front door. She’s done better since those two times but until she gets the lay of the land from your home, this will need extra attention. I cannot stress this enough because being deaf, she is in danger if she gets out of the house without her leash.
She lives in a house with three 40-60# dogs and three cats. She does great with the dogs (they correct her when needed) and great with the one cat that doesn’t care that she exists. The other two cats, if they run from her, she will chase. She doesn’t act as though she will hurt them but she does get a tad pushy. This might have to be monitored as well. She’s not overly interested but does have some curiosity.
Lastly, this crazy girl watches TV like no other dog I’ve owned. She’s very interested in the movement. Sometimes, at nap time, I will turn on a cartoon on my Fire Tablet for her to fall asleep to. She can’t hear it but she does watch.
