My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is Laika. Laika has had a very rough start to her life. She was hit by a car and left on a cement floor at a vet's office with no medical care for 2 months. ActNow! Rescue tagged her and got her to a surgeon for an evaluation. It turns out that neither of her knee caps are where they're supposed to be and sadly there's a chance that surgery won't even fix the problem. The vet had said he was surprised she can even walk at all bc her left knee is only slightly better than her right and she really only uses that one leg.
Once she is adopted if something were to happen to her better leg, the rescue will be responsible for that care. However, she gets around just fine! She runs and plays with other dogs and doesn't have any issues with stairs.
She's only around a year old, not sure what breed she is but I know she's absolutely beautiful inside and out! She only weighs about 34lbs and is so sweet that I'm surprised she doesn't melt when water touches her 🥺.
She's potty trained and crate trained although she really doesn't need to be in a crate and I haven't had her in one bc she doesn't destroy anything in the house when I'm away. She's great with other dogs and while she hasn't been kid or cat tested I can only assume based on what I've seen that she would do great. While I believe she would do great with kids I don't want her to go to a home with young children only bc I'm worried they might knock her over, it's usually the other way around lol. She doesn't need to go on walks so as not to put more stress on her left leg so if you're an older couple she might be the ideal girl for you. Please fill out an application at actnowrescue.net

More about this rescue

ACT Now! Rescue is an all volunteer, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) no kill dog rescue and animal welfare organization serving St. Louis County, Jefferson County, St. Charles, Warren and Franklin County in Missouri. We operate through a foster network and work with local shelters, as well as take in stray and abandoned animals. As an organization, we strongly oppose puppy mills and breeding programs and emphasize education and a vigorous spay/neuter program in order to reduce problems of overpopulation.
We started full operations in September 2006. There are many exciting opportunities to join the group and help further the causes of dog and cat welfare in this region. We are currently looking for generous people willing to share their homes and serve as foster parents for the animals we take in as well as volunteers to serve is almost every other area of the operation.
