My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

JAY and JANELLE, mother and daughter, were collected from outdoors about a year ago and brought to the shelter when the weather started to get cold. They were unused to humans so they have been a work in progress so far. That’s Janelle in front and Jay, of course, in back.
They are both pretty tiger and white short-haired kitties, both polydactyl with many many toes. Jay, the mom, is almost three years old now; Janelle is about one-year-plus now and about as big as mom.
We recently swapped out their hidey-hole for a big soft squashy bed big enough for both of them to curl up together. Now they have to interact a little more with us humans, and this has really helped their social skills.
JAY wants nothing to do with humans, except to bring her food, of course. She stays in the back corner of the bed when people are about. One can actually pat her a little now, without her freaking out. This is a huge improvement. Old fears are very hard to overcome, apparently.
JANELLE is the adventurous one. She is actually out and about now, exploring the room. Sometimes she hides, maybe overwhelmed by too many people at once. She can be held and cuddled for a short time, before wiggling away. She is curious and playful, and seems to be saying “Hey, Mom, these people aren’t really so awful.” It seems like she is protecting her mom.
We would like these two girls to be adopted together. They need patient people to complete their socialization. They are much less wild now than when they arrived. They need a small safe room with safe hidey-holes and lots of one-on-one interactions.
