Marcus von Marth is a gorgeous 2 year old German Shepherd. This beautiful boy should really be named ‘Majestic Marcus von Handsome’ because he is a stunning, royally sweet dog. He’s the total package with a warm, easy-going personality, good leash manners, and skills like “sit” and “paw to boot. Marcus is a socialite, so his favorite pastime is getting all kinds of attention from human friends, and he also thrives in doggie playgroups where he likes to mingle and meet new friends. He’s also relaxed and comfortable walking with a pack of other dogs on the leash too, so he seems to be able to hang with anyone, anywhere, anyhow. Plus, we were told that Marcus does well with children. Just note that he's a tall, agile boy who requires a secure fence. One final comment, though we could go on and on about Marcus, is that he loves car rides! Maybe in his past life a car ride meant he was going on a hike or to the beach, so it holds good memories for him. Will you be hitting a trail or going to the beach soon because Marcus would love to tag along!

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
