My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kenya who is affectionately known as Coco is a petite espresso colored velvet fur pibble whose smile is contagious. With nicknames like Cocopuff, Cocobean and Coconut her personality is full circle of precious cuddle bug to athletic playmate.
Coco loves a good sniffari walk, frisbee and squeak toys. She is a long walker and loves to run and zoom. She has a squish nose so expect some cute snoring and lots of snorts when she is first waking up.
Coco will tell you it’s time to go outside by pacing near the door. She is working hard on her manners, she is decent on a leash and is not destructive in a home. She is easy to bathe and practices riding in the car safely.
Coco will slowly open up and connect deeper with her person(s) as she builds trust and confidence. Coco is ok at home when you have to go somewhere, she will snooze. Coco was found abandoned and we don’t know her young puppy history but recognize training and care were not a part of it. She will need a patient and experienced adopter to assist her as she continues to learn to navigate the world.
Coco can meet new people, but she needs introductions in very small settings with whom and where she feels safe. Coco should be the only pet in her home. Applicants would be experienced Connecticut adopters in quiet single family settings who will provide a loyal loving home.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We do have a screening and application process. Protectors of Animals requires a veterinarian check before any adoption.

One of our experienced Placement Team members will meet with you and show you the cat, kitten or dog you are interested in, or will guide you towards cats, kittens or dogs that are appropriate for your home environment. We will discuss with you the background of the cat, kitten or dog and what special needs or requirements he or she may have. We will happily take the time to carefully answer any questions you have or discuss any concerns.

POA does not charge an adoption “fee.” It costs POA anywhere from $100 and $400, or more, per dog or cat or kitten to make them well and prepare them for adoption. We are an all-donation organization and we rely on adoption donations to help us continue our work. When you adopt a cat or dog, we will ask for a donation. Our adoption donation information can be found at our website at www.poainc.org.

More about this rescue

We are a NO-Kill rescue and shelter for cats and dogs.

POA was formed in 1975 to rescue abandoned, abused and stray cats and dogs. Today we are one of the oldest and most respected animal welfare organizations in the northeast. POA is here to stay! You will not find a more dedicated, experienced or thorough resource for improving the lives of Connecticut cats and dogs. We confine our focus to our home state because this is where our infrastructure and resources reside, as well as our leadership.
