My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there everyone! My name is Kobbi. I am a 2 year old American Staffy with a human-like personality to match. My Birthday is March 19th and I’ll be turning 3. Although I would like to enjoy the Corned Beef and Soda bread for St. Patrick's day every year, I have some dietary restrictions that need to be followed. I prefer a low protein and low sodium diet, no chicken or grain or kibble please, which will help me stay healthy as I am currently being assessed for kidney disease. Oh and if you put a little extra wet food in my bowl, I can assure you it will not go to waste! I'm a bit of a Chameleon, I can turn on the energy if I need to and I can loaf on the floor if that's the flavor of the hour. I love people and I’m really good at giving hugs! Although I'm a lean and sculpted 46 pounds, I do fit very well into laps so get ready cause I’m coming in for a landing. I have to be honest with you, I love drinking water! You could say, I might love it more than toys and sleeping on soft carpets. But I'll need to go out shortly after drinking so we can keep the house nice and clean. I have great manners. When you're eating, I won't beg and oftentimes I will leave the room so you can enjoy your meal. As much as I like being your shadow, I’ll know when to respect your space. Which brings me to my next talking point.......I love rubs! It’s kinda my thing. If you're sitting on the couch, I really like to be next to you. I like to sit on your feet so you know I’m there. And if I look like I’m smiling while you’re rubbing me, it’s because I am! If you’re going to use a crate, I prefer if you make it into a den by putting a blanket over it, apparently my ancestors slept in dens and it makes me feel safe. I might whine for a quick minute, but it's only because I'll miss you while you're gone. Oh and when you come back, if you could bring a tennis ball, that would be great!!!!! I am working on my loose leash walking and I must say, I have learned a lot! Like most dogs, I like to smell everything, but it’s only because it’s a new place and I love new places. Just make sure you give me those small little corrections and I’ll get back on track. Oh I forgot to mention that I might love other dogs as much as I love people. I won't bark, but if they want to play, I'm in!!! With me, what you see is what you get. I can give as much love as I get and if you're feeling down, I have a hug waiting for you. It will take a little time for me to learn your routine, but if you stay consistent, I'll be the best dog ever! So long for now and be sure to check me out on poainc.org and fill out an application or email my adoption counselor gia.f@poainc.org if you want to take me home! Did I mention I have the best smile??!!!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We do have a screening and application process. Protectors of Animals requires a veterinarian check before any adoption.

One of our experienced Placement Team members will meet with you and show you the cat, kitten or dog you are interested in, or will guide you towards cats, kittens or dogs that are appropriate for your home environment. We will discuss with you the background of the cat, kitten or dog and what special needs or requirements he or she may have. We will happily take the time to carefully answer any questions you have or discuss any concerns.

POA does not charge an adoption “fee.” It costs POA anywhere from $100 and $400, or more, per dog or cat or kitten to make them well and prepare them for adoption. We are an all-donation organization and we rely on adoption donations to help us continue our work. When you adopt a cat or dog, we will ask for a donation. Our adoption donation information can be found at our website at www.poainc.org.

More about this rescue

We are a NO-Kill rescue and shelter for cats and dogs.

POA was formed in 1975 to rescue abandoned, abused and stray cats and dogs. Today we are one of the oldest and most respected animal welfare organizations in the northeast. POA is here to stay! You will not find a more dedicated, experienced or thorough resource for improving the lives of Connecticut cats and dogs. We confine our focus to our home state because this is where our infrastructure and resources reside, as well as our leadership.
