My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Fenced yard required

Who wants to play? Max wants to play!

Max, affectionately nicknamed Maxi-Moose, is a big beautiful sweetheart of a puppy who loves to play with his people and foster siblings. He’s an easy going guy who is happy to chase a thrown toy, play tug with a rope, or play keep away. He also likes a nice long walk, and is an excellent loose leash walker, staying right at your side unless he sees a squirrel or another dog, but even then he easily walks on when asked. Max loves other dogs and is good with dog savvy cats as well. He will chase squirrels and birds in the yard.

Max was lovingly raised by his former owner until she became ill and could no longer give him and his brother Luke the kind of care a couple of young Collies need. This love shows in his trusting personality. Max takes a few minutes to get to know new people, but once he’s decided they are OK, he makes fast friends. When he’s feeling particularly affectionate, he’s been known to try and climb into his foster parents’ laps, and he likes to wake his foster mama with kisses in the morning. Max loves his people and wants to be where they are. If left alone or unable to find them he will cry, but he does find companionship in his foster siblings. For this reason, it would be in his best interest to have a playful dog in his adopted family, or possibly the ability to go to doggie daycare rather than being left alone.

A smart boy, Max knows how to sit, down, stay, come, wait, and is learning leave it. Max is crate trained for times when the foster family is away. He will retreat to his crate when he needs quiet time or to sleep. While he would be happy as a family dog, he has the perfect temperament for a therapy dog. Max is housebroken and will bark at the door to ask to go out. No one is perfect and he does have a few habits that need some training. Max is quiet in the house except for a few play barks while engaging with his foster siblings and he likes to talk when getting good butt and belly rubs. Out in the yard Max likes the sound of his own voice and needs training to curb his barking. He is also afraid of flights of stairs, but willingly comes up a few steps to enter the house. Last, Max is not comfortable on hardwood or other slippery floors, but will cross the wood to get from area rug to area rug.

Can Max come over to your house and play?
