NAME:  Bolt
BREED:  Terrier mix
SEX:  male
COLOR:  white/tan
AGE:  4 yrs as of Sept 2023
WEIGHT:  19 lbs

FOSTERED BY:  Lara
LOCATED IN:  Bradenton

NOTES FROM FOSTER FAMILY:

Check out our sweet Bolt…Bolt is aptly named as he is fast as a lightning bolt.  He is very active and enjoys spending time outside so a forever home with a fenced yard would be best.  Bolt gets along well with other dogs and would thrive with a playmate, so a home with another dog would be ideal for him.  Bolt knows some commands like sit and walks fairly well on a leash, but still needs work on potty and crate training and will require additional training and patience.

Bolt can be reactive to new people and changes in his environment, but he bonds quickly once trust is established.  Bolt spent quite some time in a kennel environment, but now that he is spending time in a foster home, his sweet, happy personality is starting to shine, and he is becoming the awesome dog that we know he is!

Due to COVID-19 we are a little more limited on volunteers and the availability (and safety) of home visits.   Local applications are given first priority and some out of town areas will not be able to be processed.

At this time, we will only be able to process applications that have an excellent current vet history.  If you haven’t had a pet or verifiable vet history we will not be able to process your application.

Additional adoption info

Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment and is a responsibility that should be taken very seriously. Our dogs may have been lost, abandoned, abused or surrendered by a previous family and may require time to adjust to a new home. Many times there will be more than one application for a dog but we strive to match each dog with the most appropriate family. At this time, adoptions are limited to within the state of Florida.

Our goal is to place healthy, well-adjusted dogs. All of our dogs are vet checked including spayed or neutered; heartworm tested (placed on preventative if negative and treatment started if positive); up to date on vaccinations; bloodwork; urinalysis; dewormed and provided with any other medical care necessary. Our dogs are also microchipped for permanent identification. Our adoption donation, which is normally $300.00 for adults and $400.00 for puppies, is to help offset these veterinary expenses. Our adoption contract allows for a dog to be returned within 7 calendar days for a full refund; otherwise, all donations are non-refundable after that time. If for any reason you decide you no longer can keep your adopted dog, the dog MUST be returned to Canine Castaways.

More about this rescue

Canine Castaways, Inc. is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing dogs in need, rehabilitating if necessary, and then adopting to approved homes where they will be loved as part of a family while also encouraging responsible pet care and striving to increase awareness of the consequences of pet overpopulation through educational programs and materials. We do not operate from a shelter but rather a network of foster homes in different areas of the state so it may not always be possible for you to meet more than one of our dogs at a time. While this can be frustrating for a prospective adopter, the foster home setting allows us to better evaluate the dogs' temperaments and help them adjust to family life. We deal primarily with dogs under 30 pounds but will also take in larger dogs if a foster home is available.
